sloe gin is rather lovelly.

so do i want to see you with gin then?

On the train down to Wales I asked all the others if they would like a drink.. they all declined. It was only when the bottle of gin was half way finished that they realised I meant a drink drink, as opposed to some water/juice or whatever... I did think it was a bit odd... :D

ooh, I'm so sorry I couldn't come (actually, no I'm not - I got sun and swimming).

Tell me everything you saw/touched/bought at Colinette!

I'm very keen on the chutney idea -- did we decide who had the most suitable ktichen?

Also,I HAVE FINISHED MY PINK SHRUG!

AND IT FITS!

My mum just sewed it together for me.

It needs blocking and then I will post up photos.

I am so happy. :)

WOW.

So how much did everyone score? How much did it set you back (I want to hear about BARGAINS). Is it much cheaper than retail? Were there other shoppers there?

err... too much, lots, none! and no.... well maybe a bit... actually yes cos there was a sale room and plus we got a group-who-have travelled-a-long-way-just-too-fondle-some-yarn extra 10% off... oh and don't forget the cup of tea and a biscuit..
:D

I was pleased because the sale section was actually very large and I can't see that selection on the online site.... we bought most of our stuff from the sale room and then Choc negotiated an extra 10% discount on top!!

When we arrived there were two other women there for a very short while, but for most of the 1.5 - 2 hours it was just us and they kindly brought us out tea and biscuits so we could sit and try and narrow down the enormous piles of yarn we had amassed to sensible amounts to buy.

It was a really nice experience.

Are we any further along with a knitting/pickling date?... I want to get my green toms off soon as some of them are beginning to rot on the vine... obviously I can just make some pickle here, but it would be nice to contribute them towards some mass pickle making... :)

Newbie Knitting Ideas Please

I've officially given up on the baby sweater, baby will be too big by now. So I need an easy knit to start on. For me, else I won't have the motivation. A hat maybe?? Open to all suggestions . . . .

baby hats are pretty quick and easy.

or make a hat/scarf set for yourself

I love this beanie for its simplicity! I recommend it to all newbies because it's so quick to knit - it can get frustrating to start on a scarf (assuming its the easiest thing) only to get bored shitless and lose motivation.

And if you do the decreases right you get a nice 'swirl' pattern on the crown - very professional!

easy peasy beanie
Using 5.5mm needles and a DK-weight yarn, cast on 60 (66,72) stitches
Work in K3,P3 ribbing for 10cm
Continue in stockingette stitch until piece measures 19cm (19.5cm, 20.5cm) from cast on edge ending in a Wrong Side (ie the last row knitted was a WS, and you're about to start a RS)
row 1: *K5, K2tog* across row
row 2: purl
row 3: *K4, K2tog* across row
row 4: purl
row 5: *K3, K2tog* across row
row 6: purl
row 7: *K2, K2tog* across row
row 8: purl
row 9: *K1, K2tog* across row
row 10: purl
row 11: *K2tog* across row
Cut yarn leaving 30cm tail. With a yarn needle, thread yarn tail through the remaining loops. Sew the seam until last 5cm, turn inside out and finish serwing the other side. This will be the fold-up side of the hat.

wear!

If you've got your heart set on a scarf, try something with a bit of interest like a mistake rib - also keeps boredom at bay!

Meanwhile, is anyone going to Ally Pally or have y'all run out of money?!
