Rape, sexual assault and harassment in the entertainment industry

Thing is, didn't the blurb for the programme (probably a fucking tweet someone posted here) imply several comedians? I mean, what that Times article says is enough for a whole programme. Is it exposing more? That's a lot of lawsuits to be taking on at once. Or have I got this wrong and it's all about just one cunt?

I've read it was likely a dissembling tactic as he's so notoriously litigious.

A more suspicious person might think his gradual shift to alt right media presentation and increased talk about being persecuted was preparing the ground for these allegations.

I'd still tend to think it was more about the piles of cash and (probably just as importantly) the attention tbh.

Still it won't do him any harm to have a conspiracy fan audience who'll lap his shit up.

I think he probably genuinely believes that shit. The 'I'm still relevant' no doubt helps, but you don't consistently maintain that kind of output without some measure of belief. And there are so many on the kind of spiritual/consciousness raising 'left' that have followed this tack.

Really hope some criminal charges come out of this, as you say his audience aren't about to abandon him.

I’d almost forgotten that Brand was married to Katy Perry for a year, finishing in Dec 2011. Shortly thereafter he returned to the UK, and since then, despite his disinhibited and voluble persona, he has not said a single word about Katy Perry – he is uncharacteristically utterly silent about her.

in the spirit of idle urban 75 speculation, I wonder whether this silence is because both parties have signed ironclad non-disparagement/nondisclosure agreements. The timing of Brand’s return to the UK in 2012 is also interesting; of course, Katy Perry is infinitely more powerful in Hollywood and the entertainment industry than Brand, so I wonder whether she put the word out around LA to ensure that “he never works in this town again”.

Coincidently, last night, I watched Kenneth Branagh’s death on the Nile. Crikey, what casting: both Russell Brand and Armie Hammer !

Regretfully went back on the website formally known as Twitter. A mistake. Delightful to see so many people who constantly abuse drag queens and trans people on the basis that they're so sincerely concerned about women's safety sticking up for this piece of shit.

“I felt a lot of responsibility for it ending but then I found out the real truth, which I can’t necessarily disclose because I keep it locked in my safe for a rainy day. I let go and I was like: This isn’t because of me; this is beyond me”

Her words…

so somebody at Mi6 will be trying to claim they took down Russell Brand :D
Although explaining to your bosses who brand is and why they should care will be harder.
personally always thought he was a bit sleazy. But there's a diffence between having sex with anything that will have you because your famous and forcing yourself on people.

From the Times article, there look to have been every bit as many people who could have intervened to stop him as was the case with Savile. And Brand's victims don't appear to have been kids in children's homes or in hospitals who wouldn't have been believed. Many of them seem to have been employed and working in organisations. They were still beholden to Brand and there was a clear and strong power dynamic in play, but they had bosses and others who should have intervened. And it sounds like they would have had background knowledge about his behaviour and would have realised specific acts of abuse were part of a pattern. But power, money, the status quo and male aggression are a horrible mix. Anybody who does intervene in these kind of cases has my full respect - including the cabbie mentioned.

Justin Sane (Geever) from Anti-flag has had accusations made by multiple women (13 at last count I believe). Some fucking horrific stuff. Rolling Stone piece here

Fucks sake, what a scumbag.

Well, that's my spotify needs pruning (hardly the important issue of course).

Can you imagine what this loons' hard drive looks like?

There's no coherent or cohesive ideology behind these people, it's simple power, money, fame and entitlement. It's circling waggons around birds of a feather. That's all.

Indeed. Whilst I agree that criminal offences like this belong in a Court (rather than the papers), Robinson leaves out entirely the reasons why that doesn't always happen in most cases with "normal" people never mind those with access to substantial resources.

As for "audience", unfortunately that is one of the absurd things about nowadays - Robinson, a deacon in a minor Anglican sect, has greater media presence and is probably more recognizable than any member of any Christian organization in the UK.

Take your general point, but 'figure from minor Christian sect suddenly gains outsize influence' is... er... not what I'd call a new thing.

Unlike Savile it wasn’t left until he died. Clearly floodgates will now open.

most people have no idea who Robinson is

It isn't, but when its happened before (like with the various Revivals) its usually been because of someone's charisma or the effect of their preaching. Robinson doesn't possess that, and the drum he bangs is pretty much the same one that he did before he became a minister.

Just watched his video on it (sorry), and he, as expected, just rants about how the "MSM" is coordinating an attack on him. What a handy narrative to have.
