Pro Cycling 2022

Nah the parents are too blame and these days kids are out of control. It wasn't like this back in the day when I was growing up blah blah blah
Well I agree, and the comments are totally the opposite of the editorial.

Well, this’ll give twistedAM some conflicting emotions :D

I'll have to change allegiance to Pogacar or Uijtdebroeks if that sham happens.

Mind you this time last year there were stories about Ineos going after Pog and the year before that it was Rog.

And another rumour from today is that Carlos Rodrigues will not renew his INEO$ contract next year and is going to Movistar for the 2024 season. Chapeau!

Well thankfully the Remco to Ineos story got squashed. There's a few clickbait stories with no substance going around. It was also rumoured that a Quickstep DS was going to Ineos but he's publicly stated he is not.

Nice win for the much-derided Enric Mas yesterday at the beautiful Giro dell'Emilia ahead of Pog.
Going to be a good battle at Lombardia with those two and Vingegaard who seems in form at the Cro Race.
Also Lombardia is the last race for two legend of the sport - Nibali and Valverde.
The best one day race in Italy though I;m sure some here would put Strade above it.

Can’t really compare the two. Monument length races by their nature are raced differently. Both are fabulous to watch…

MSR gives us the best 12 minutes of the entire sporting calendar, let alone cycling in Italy!

Dud anyone watch the race? Felt so devoid of atmosphere or excitement from the commentary team, like it was the first hour graveyard shift of a nondescript tdf stage, for the whole race. Granted the race was pretty dull I.e. the riders didn't give them much to talk about, but still.

On a related note, the side-test of every hour record are the commentators taking on the toughest gig in sports commentary...And they did very well for the last 5 minutes that I saw it!

Yeah when MSR is good it's the best (Mohoric, Nibali, Kelly etc) but when it's a 30-rider sprint I feel let down.

It's a shame that Lombardia is where it is in the season as a lot of riders have already closed their season. All the Italian hilly one day races suffer from this and also they seems to lack the hype that ASO or Flanders Classics races have. The organisers were a but pissed that Pinarello/Ganna chose the day to do his record attempt on the same day and that predictably took away the headlines and then the next day Italy also hosted some hybrid thing that was called the Gravel World Championships.

I thought Lombardia was decent enough this year but sadly Enric Mas just doesn't have the kick to drop the likes of Pog. Hopefully Remco rides next year so we'll have a shoot out between him and Pog both of them backed by really good teams. As for the commentary it was all about Valverde and Nibali and very little about the actual race. the commentators on Paris-Tours the next day didn't go on about Gilbert and Terpstra the same way.

Let’s be honest, it was dull this year. Most pundits said it would end up Mas vs Pog, with Pog winning, and that’s exactly what we got.

I think what helps make it exciting is the way they label and rank the pave sectors. It really builds it up as a television spectacle. I prefer Flanders and wish they'd do the same with the mugs.
Does anyone here have any experience of watching Paris-Roubaix? I’m looking to go out next year, but have no idea of logistics!

I don't even have a team yet and even then I don't know if I will be selected for the tour, but, it will be my hardest start to the tour. Sounds very optimistic.

1. If he signs for a tea for next season taking part in Le Tour is going to be a pre requisite.
2. He didn't actually say it would be the hardest of his career if you actually read the quotes!

I know he had some critics, rightfully, at the the beginning of his career, but why the bad attitude towards him now?

He was heavily linked with B&B Hotels but it looks like their sponsorship and funding has fallen through. He's so heavily tied to the Specialized brand but none of the teams that ride those bikes seem to want him - Quick Step (they have Jacobsen AND Merlier), Bora (Bennett) and Total Energies (Sagan, who although not a pure sprinter has a pure ego)

As expected Remco wins the Veto D'Or.
Kind of a surprise that Van Aerts was voted in second (he failed to win any Monument this season) ahead of Pog. Tour de France winner only finished fourth.

Yes lots :)

I have done the weekend a few times - drive or Eurostar it over (Stay in Llile), ride the course on the Saturday, and (if you can walk, not a given IME :) ) watch the race on the Sunday.

Sunday you have to make a call, Velodrome or Aarenberg (if you have a car). Arenberg is v cool, with Dutch/Belgian fans going fully in. I have managed to do both before, and it was worth it tbh, but I was very lucky.

Give me a nudge closer to the day if you want more info.

Vingegaard won the Lanterne Rouge best climbing performance in this round up of the "watts per kilo" year
This is based on a number of factors not just actual no.s. I think Van Aerts was pretty extraordinary in the Tour de France perhaps that's why he got 2nd.

This fixation those nerds have with watts over kg and whatever other numbers is so annoying. Also their idea that climbing up long Alpine passes is the be all and end all of cycling.
My climber of the year is Dylan Teuns as he was first up the Mur de Huy.

Astana team squad photo released today. No Cav. But only 29 in photo!!!! Is he or isn’t he?

A horde of entitled pedaling pricks have fucked up East London today. I don't know if they're professional, but had the Authorities forewarned me, I would have stocked up on glue and drawing pins to sprinkle liberally across all those highways reserved for the Elite
Bastards have fucked up my Bank Holiday again. Cyclists being parsimonious shits, it won't even bring any benefit to the local economy. At least the Comicon mob at ExCell splash their Dosh around the local shops
