Olympic Opening Ceremony, London 2012

Whereabouts do you live that you can see it from your balcony? I'm in Upton Park and might be able to hear, if not see, the fireworks but I'm planning to go to Stratford Park for a big screen experience

ooh... if the weather's good I might do that too. Will be nice to have a big crowd for the telly version. :)

Plumstead. We're up on a hill and our balcony faces over the river. Actually can't remember just how much you can see, but definitely remember one day suddenly thinking "oh shit, there's the Olympic stadium" :)

And our section bollocksed up the first 'thing' of the show - well, for about 30 seconds before we collectively sorted it out. :D
Ahh, took me a second but I think I know what you mean. Seemed like a couple of sections had trouble with that bit to be fair. Us on the other side enjoyed watching your attempts ;)

In the reverse of RotK, it has about 3 starts. There's the "hey crowd, this is how we want you to join in" which started at 19:30, the 'pre-show' which started at 20:12, and the main show which started at 21:00. Then there's the athletes parade, which apparently starts around 22:15. Then the fireworks.

It seems I may have misunderstood some of this though.

Thanks Shreddy :)

Right my "sources in the know" have said the Opening Ceremony starts at 20:12 (funny that!)
The main show starts at 9pm and lasts about 3 hours. They apparently cut the length of the show down as they were worried about people being able to get home....(lets hope the all the tubes work!)

It's going to be good....really good. And it may have cost £27 million (*cough, cough*) but that is still 20 times cheaper than Beijing's Opening Ceremony!!

On the news the other week they did a bit from the olympic site and the scene was already set for the opening ceremony. They do realise that if it's taken them 3 or 4 weeks to get all that shit in it will take a similar amount of time to get it all back out and the games only last for 2 weeks. :D

Striking a set can be much quicker than erecting it. Don't have to put the right things in the right places, just get it the hell out of there and deal with it offsite.

I'm guessing.

How much do Underworld feature? Is the music very Underworld-esque? Do they even feature in person?

*those chords* do make an appearance :D And there's loaads of other great British music in the latter half.

Oh and another thing: There's alot of socialist values in the whole thing. Something quite the opposite of what we'd have got if they hired say Andrew Lloyd Webber (with music by Tim Rice of course).

You mean the born slippy nuxx chords? Do Rick & Karl make any kind of appearance?

Please tell me they don't do the eastenders theme *cringe*

I have to say I think it peaked early. Much of what followed was still very good, but most of the "holy fuck!" stuff was near the beginning.

But with all the tons of earth they have dumped in there you need to be very careful not to damage and of the sand pits, run up areas (for high jump etc) that they have burried.

It'll be turf over some kind of rigging, mark my words ;)

e2a: they're hardly gonna dump that much earth in the middle of the stadium!

a get out takes a lot less longer
like LC says and also a lot of it will be skipped most likely
plus they'll be mob handed to get it out asap

Sure I'd heard somewhere there was about 350 tons of earth in there for the opening ceremony.
Well that's just 350 of these, so I'm not surprised.
I've put 10 tons of compost in a not very big garden.
