And I thought it was great on the whole. I was another who was all prepared to hate it but have to admit it was really good. Lost a mark for Paul McCartney and the Arctic Monkeys,

I'm all over the place; starting at 8 for simply not being shit then -1 for having Tiger Feet stuck in my head, +1 for NHS,
-1 for Macca being a lazy choice, then +157bn for the cauldron concept. Oh, +1 for The Red Arrows going directly over my garden and another +1 for the thousands of humans watching on West Ham Rec and another +1 for the fireworks wobbling my innards from two miles away.

So, 10

I went for 9 - loved it all except the Macca thing - they just wheel him out for everything these days... bit of a downer at the end. But the rest of it and the cauldron was sooooo beautiful. I watched it on a big screen with lots of others and the atmosphere was amazing. This is going to be a really memorable year for our family with all this, the jubilee (like it or loathe it), Wimbledon and the birth of our 2nd daughter and the rain etc.

I'm personally having a great 2012 and all the public events are making it better too :)

I liked how at least one of them was black. :D

I was reading The Telegraph's comments section last night. Couldn't believe how many people were complaining how many blacks there were :D They were right pissed off. Pissed off about the NHS bit as well. :D

going for a 9 - McCartney was the downer , but only a bit.

The chinese can a produce a DPRK type of unlimited budget mass games event, but this was WTF at regular points - Music was great but the apex was the NHS for me - one of the few things that made me well up a bit and ( as been said ) made me strangely happy with being a Brit for the duration

I am genuinely surprsed that its obviously left slant was approved, but Bole would not have come on board if he had to temper his creativity Im sure

didn't watch it, but this means it probably rates a 10

"
This was supposed to be a representation of modern life in England but it is likely to be a challenge for the organisers to find an educated white middle-class middle-aged mother and black father living together with a happy family in such a set-up.
"

wtf

We do have national pride
we are proud of being grumpy and ambivalent about being british

bet you didnt have the equivalent of buffoon boris yelling a pre- recorded message at all train stations "this is the big one" and telling us visitors are coming and its going to be busy

or did you?

That was really fucking annoying.

Nothing like having to listen to the booming plummy voice of that self-promoting twat to turn someone who's just spent almost an hour stuck on the circle line in oven-like conditions savagely homicidal.

i found the 7/7 segment/abide with me moving but not mawkish. pretty much the whole thing was perfectly judged re mood/spectacle/impact from where i was sat, not a mean feat.

:D

Looking into other flats from our balcony last night here in Edinburgh, weren't that many people watching, say half the number that watches the Calcutta Cup match :(

NBC didn't show that bit apparently, thought the US would rather see a chat with Phelps.
(fat fingers corrected)
