Olympic Opening Ceremony, London 2012

they should have played 'who do you think you are kidding Mr Hitler' when the germans came out and the English team should have chased them back in with the help of the Russian and American teams

Watching it back soberish I think it's class just 'What the fuck has this got to do with sport?' :D

It's as good as a show about Britain could be I think, but Mike Oldfield doing a guitar solo while monsters try to kill NHS babies lol. 'errrr, I came here because I'm really good at throwing heavy balls and spears, what the fuck is this shit?'

it's brilliantly madcap isn't it.

I fucking loved the punks that came out pogoing on those jumping stilt things with massive oversized punk heads complete with mohicans.

I used to work with people who were further advanced than that, they were still there - they still wanted to do things they used to and we'd try and enable that for them. People with Parkinsons don't really get cognitive impairment to the extent they can't make decisions for themselves, they just lose the ability to express or communicate clearly. There's still a person in there.

It is important not to confuse cognitive impairment with dementia.

Late stage Parkinson's can be associated with dementia. Dementia is a type of cognitive impairment.

Turks Head?

I did think about starting a new thread but I am more restrained in my old age these days :(

You're not old, son. ;)

But, I sort of know what you mean, although when you do start to get really old you'll find yourself getting less restrained again, as I am just about starting to find out, not that I've found it to any sort of level as such at the moment, if you get my drift, sas would know a hell of a lot more about it than me. :D

Very few people get PPD, I don't know what the figure is but it I do know it is rare as hens teeth. I never came across it once, even in the final stages of people with the disease. The thinking is that PD brings about a condition called Lewis Bodies, I think. Would need to Google it and am on my phone!

Any hoo, not the threat for it.

There are a few different variations of Parkinson's. Memory problems and cognitive deficits are associated with some types. There is a type of dementia called Lewey Body dementia, this is closely associated with Parkinsons.

But yes, not the thread, so I'll leave it there.

Ahahahaha! :D YES! Fuckin BRILLIANT!

Soooo proud to be British

PS ain't read thread but can only believe this is in general keeping with the other 37 pages cos who couldn't have loved a mental party like that lol
I would feel rather prouder of being british if the fine sentiments about freedom expressed within the stadium hadn't been contradicted just outside the erection.

Foreigners will now believe the nhs sleep children two to a bed

I've just finished downloading it from iPlayer, because I've got to take the laptop around to plug into mother's telly and watch it with her and explain WTF was/is going on, as almost all of it went right over her head, although she still gave it the

Bless her. :)

Not sure it has been mentioned, but it was written by Frank Cottrell Boyce, worked on loads of films with Michael Winterbottom, scouser, ex of Brookie, former TV critic of Living Marxism!
don't think he follows any party line though, very very humane...

'Boyce is not an anal retentive-type when it comes to his screen writing, and he freely admits that the script of "24 Hour Party People" was never actually finished.'

Maybe this explains the chaos*, unpredictability, etc, in parts of the event...

he is also a catholic, though religion played no part in the ceremony..

*controlled chaos though

Rick Smith of Underworld did a brilliant job with the soundtracking. The music during the industrial revolution bit was amazing, as was the flame lighting part. I don't believe anybody could've done it better. All the hallmarks of the underworld sound were there too, the synth bells used in Two Months Off created great segues between each of the segments. I noted the electronic hooter from Rez/Cowgirl, the arpeggiated rhythms keeping the cast of drummers in check, the breakdown which represented the world wars with the whistling which reprised at the end with the flame lighting. Even the Victorian dudes dancing in a robotic/industrial style in top hats looked amazing. I've watched it three times already

I loved how Underworld managed to get 5 or 6 tunes to soundtrack the athletes parade. Rez, Confusion the Waitress, Dark & Long, Always Loved A Film, Moon in Water, Crocodile all in there.

I lolled at mr bean who by my mark has not been funny since the early ninties but pulled off a samson 'just once more Lord grant me my power' and was actually funny

coming back to an earlier comment which I can't find, didn't somebody note that there was a tribute to the Hillsborough dead hidden away somewhere?

Lot of stuff like that is going to be discovered over the next few weeks i think.

apparently, according to LTW reader Terry Clarke, during the Emilie Sande’s performance of the FA cup favourite abide with me, there were 96, note, 96, dancers
