It's more FSG don't want to spend in the current climate, odds are we'd pay over the odds (quite considerably) even for a half decent CB, they would already need to be based in England also most likely due to all the travel restrictions. So buying someone that would probably cost £10m normally, would probably cost in excess of £20m, at a time when you don't want to be spending over the odds on something, sadly it makes no sense from an econmics business sense, but then, also spending £20m now and not losing out on a Champions League spot (which could happen) would be classed as money saved, rather than money lost. I guess you decide to take the gamble, and the gamble will be we don't need to spend money and we'll still qualify for Champions League and be quids in. Fail to qialify though and it could set us back years again. Players will no doubt leave, we've already lost Gini for nowt by the looks of it.
Loans are probably the best option, but none of our rivals are going to loan us their back up centre halfs, and everyone else isn't going to want to lose someone in their starting 11.
Klopp isn't happy about it if the Mirror is to be believed, but it is what it is. Klopp has to take some of the blame, eyebrows were raised when Lovren left and no one else was brought in, but I guess we never expected to have Gomez and Virg both end up with long term injuries, we knew Fabinho could do a job there too. The bigger problem in my opinion is how it's effected the midfield. Pulling out midfielders to play there, especially Henderson has had a huge impact, Henderson missing anyway who can come back collect the ball and do the spreading of the ball that Virg can also do from the back.
WIlliams (was it) sadly just looked way out of his depth against a team like United.
Its a problem thats created two other problems, and then a front line that's not been performing. if Mane isn't playing well, the rest of the front 2 always seem to be off as well (in my opinion Mane is our best player)
It's a lot of things all going on at once. Not making excuses January has always been an off month for us, 2017 was on par for being as bad as this one, but at least this one has some valid excuses.
