Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk needs surgery on a knee ligament injury sustained in the 2-2 draw at Everton on Saturday.
The 29-year-old Netherlands defender was unable to continue following a rash challenge by Toffees keeper Jordan Pickford in the first half.
It is unclear how long he will be out for with the anterior cruciate ligament injury. He went for a scan before a specialist confirmed the extent of the injury.

Any team in any league would have a few idiot fans who react in a cunty way about something like this. It is not acceptable but don't pretend some Everton fans would not have done the same if situations were reversed.

I have listened to a host of pundits, podcasts and match reports. Every single person (including goalkeepers and referees) have said it should have been a straight red and he should be banned for reckless play.

For the record I don't think there was intent or malice in it. Just ham-fisted, clumsy and pointless play which is indicative of Pickford. It is a shame the ref and VAR officials were all taking a day off and the game was a mess.
