Northern Independence Party

Does north Derbyshire count as the north to the NIP?

Also, the anthem should be Jerusalem and anyone who disagrees is just wrong.
I think they're including some of north Derbyshire, eg High Peak, but their position is that in those borderlands areas it should be up to people to decide if they think they're north or not.

Find the whole discussion about where north starts and stops increasingly tedious (in general, not just here), it's like a discussion of poverty getting overtaken by nitpickers about exactly how poverty should be defined. Ditto the endlessly repeated point about intra-northern rivalries meaning an independent north wouldn't work, when England as a whole, or the UK as a whole, is chock-a-block with division in the first place.

Am sure I read they applied in January, seems absurd it would not be processed in time for May.
Yeah, I can't imagine it's entirely down to a short staff at the EC situation. Who knows.

I assume they will stand as an independent candidate? They're not just going to stand with the name. I thought principles would trump branding.

Corbynista Entryism! The NIP project is dead on arrival.

Other way around imo, now tapping into a active constituency of Northern socialism... That is what NIPs politics are after all.... And may be able to do so free of the usual negative connotations (for a time)
I've not actually seen NIP even mentioned in the mainstream media.
Some chance to break through to hard to reach voters.

The opposite of entryism , its a formation finding it's base

Its as good as anything else tbf. I don't really care anyway, I'm more interested in policy and that seems nailed on so far.

I have no idea what Policy looks like tbh. Is it all that stuff about why it's a good idea to break away from London? It all seems really sensible and makes sense but I'm not sure what would be funding us until we get our finances sorted?

you're right - the politics then. I'm not very interested in the name of a fantasy northern state or the fact they have a whippet in their logo or the fact that the founder lives in Bath. I am interested in the conversation a northern independence movement could open up about the north/south divide & inequality in general though

Same. I like that the statement of intent sets out very clearly why the north is disadvantaged etc.

well, this is disappointing (the detail seems to rely on context-free receipts from some private forum, but whatever the context some of it doesn't look great)
