I think people weren't as greedy back in the day, or perhaps it was considered rude to grab huge portions of stuff because resources were more scarce and/or your host not always that wealthy? Anyway, I have a tendency to pick up beautiful old coffee cups at fleamarkets and garage sales and so on, and they're almost always super tiny! All of my coffee cups from the 1960s especially are so small it'd be considered rude for me to serve someone using those- it's the equivalent of a thimble to a washing bowl, size-wise... Might be good for espresso/americano, though. I only got them for the beautiful patterns anyway, so perhaps they could be used as planters or vases instead... Not sure how many I own, the old ones are more precious so I mostly use new cups to actually drink coffee or tea from... hah.

6 small mugs, 5 medium size, 2 large in normal use. 2 spare mugs and 3 espresso cups gathering dust.

I think we have over thirty, plain ones have been moved to the shed. I do have a bit of a mr men mug habit though.

I'm one down though because I left it at work when I got sent home in March. I could have taken it but I thought sod's law would be in effect so if I took it home I'd be coming back and vice versa. So I left it as a sacrifice which worked. I'm happy for them to keep it.

One of my sisters once lived with an evil housemate who nicked all her mugs when she moved out, so that year I just got my sister loads of mugs for her birthday, including the Shrewsbury 24 fundraiser mug that now seems impossible to find online except for one post of Diane Abbott modelling it:

She liked it, but considered that it wasn't really a mug that you could take into the office, which is probably fair enough.

My favourite one...

I rescued it from a school I once worked at in London. "Rescued?" I hear you scoff, "You mean stole!" But no, I would not have stolen such a lovely thing. I found it languishing down inside the middle space of the main stairwell, full of rubbish and fagbutts and gum. I decided it was far too nice for such an ignominious fate, so ok maybe I did steal. I stole a filthy ashtray and restored it into a lovely hand-made mug.

My rule for mugs is that they must be white inside as I find a coloured inner mug makes it hard to tell what’s in the mug. And I don’t like that.

I have a few from races I’ve done over the years. Quite liked a mug as a souvenir better than a poxy medal.

Funny(ish) story about the race where I got the mug on the left. It was a half marathon somewhere just west of Salisbury, I had been running with a bloke for a mile or so and he said we’d see the badgers soon. I didn’t know what he meant as I thought badgers were nocturnal, turns out he meant these The Fovant Badges, Wiltshire | Educational Images | Historic England

My main mug though is a pint one which I use for morning coffee and it is decorated with various English historical landmarks

This is known as 'my haunted mug' in our house as it came from the Oxenham Arms on Dartmoor. Used to be a monastery, The Oxenham, has two standing stones in the building, and naturally is meant to be visited by things from beyond.

We stayed in the most haunted room. I asked Mrs V if she noticed anything weird that night. "No, just heard you get up for a wee". "I didn't get up for a wee". "Well something was moving around in the bedroom". "Righto." We're going back there next year.

Nice mug, though. Takes a pint of tea.

Mugs from different places - Skye, Assynt and Poland, all In regular use:

A fundraiser mug for SKAT - the campaign against the Skye Bridge Tolls.

Now relegated to ornamental duties because the glaze inside began to crack after a few years.

And:

Shame I can't use 2 emoji - BIG likes for the Space 1999 eagles 💌

Laughs for the Thread Finder General impersonation 😆

There's a place in town where they've got a big mug on display that says "Jacques Derrida" in the style of the classic Sports Direct big mugs, think they've not got any for sale though. (I have not tried to buy the Derrida mug myself.)
On similar lines, I remember the CWU flogging these a while back:
