Massive earthquake and tsunamis hit Japan

Looks like the 2 have been scaled down to 1 M7.1

I think it was showing 2 quakes because when they revised the depths they didn't remove the first one.

there is a tsunami warning being given out :(

I was there for that one, well in Tokyo anyway. Bit of a wobbly telly, not enough for me to prepare for death but enough for me to grab the daughter and run outside.
The next day everyone said is was the biggest after shock and they were all scared shitless, probably because they were worried it was all starting again. Luckily it was very short, unlike the big one that just got bigger and bigger and didn't stop.

Well, the one last thursday/friday started as a 7.4 and was downgraded to a 7.1, this one is stated as 7.1, but might be downgraded yet, so it looks like it's about the same size.

edit to say, just as I typed this, it was downgraded to 6.6, so not as strong, no.

Spoke to some people in Japan a little while ago and they obviously didn't think it was worth mentioning.

Just FUCKING RUN already! If they weren't elderly or otherwise unable to run, what they fuck were they thinking?

Just spoke with a friend of mine who is helping in a shelter.

Elders are dying of deep vein thrombosis. Three in his place in the last ten days.

Lots of post traumatic stress disorder too. Nightmares and so forth, and so disturbed sleep for all.

The husband of one of my wifes relatives was right in it. Chased in his car by the tsunami, realized he could not out run it and ran up the nearest tall building he could find. I think he found one four or six floors up. He held onto a hand rail with both arms and the water came up to his neck. He said he saw people just being swept past him but he could barely hold on for his own life and was powerless to help. After it was over he wandered around for three days, his house was gone and he assumed the worst that his wife and child were dead. Thankfully they were not and he found them at a shelter.
Can you imagine the trauma? And I very much doubt it is the worst story by far. He has not been able to sleep since without only dreaming of the tsunami.

I can't imagine how horrible it must have been, just thankfull that he found his wife and child safe.

^^^ :(

But, so glad he, his wife and child survived. :)

It was mad though, I think the wife went almost immediately back to work, the office quickly relocated, then again a week or so again to a temp place in Tokyo. As soon as she could get petrol she drove down. Not to escape radiation or hardship or to stay with relatives (though she did meet us for lunch while we were there), but to work.

6M in Chiba, bit to close to my in-laws for comfort.

The 7M in fukushima was enough to wobble my telly over, and that was freaking miles away.
