Wtf, Japan?

Way to many western vloggers in Japan just hang with other vloggers or chase the algorithm.
Yes, although Oriental Pearl doesn't seem to be part of the gang.

There's a fair few I follow, Tokyo Lens, Chris Broad, Sharla etc but the tend to focus on more positive stories. Not always, but sadly the social issues don't get the numbers.

I’ve stopped following most of them, I used to be keen on Chris but most of his content is very lacklustre and basic now. Life Where I’m from is good as he actually seems to engage with daily life in Japan.

Reliant on the algorithm throwing Japanese vloggers at me and half of those seem to be “quiet calm on the farm day in my life” style.

For sure.

I'll still watch the big bloggers but increasingly they pander to the worldwide audience. Which is grand, but not exactly for me.

Been watching a lot of train journey vids lately. Very relaxing?

Ooh, could you link a ceramics one, ta

I watch that channel a lot. For the life of me, I can't explain why I like it so much
😁

Hey, that's one of them. This is another one am subscriber to

Bollocks, it can't be shared here. Oh well, it's called Kuga's Travel and it's a similar vibe.

This is very sad. And likely to be the norm, as births fall, the population ages.

There's other related issues; villages emptying , residents moving to the cities where they don't know people, young people becoming recluses and not meeting partners and the government's refusal to make it easier for immigrants to make a home here.

Micro aggression against the non homogeneous in Japan

Tldr?

Tough.

Tldr?

Young pop star posted picture of herself with male friend or boyfriend and must now be punished for her outrageous behaviour.

I don't understand what the issue is?

Is having a boyfriend some sort of taboo in Japanese pop? It's all a bit weird to me.

The idol stuff is all highly scripted and contracted. Really nasty parasocial stuff and selling these women (and occasionally men but usually women) as some sort of perfectly realised potential, not girlfriend, but someone available for the audience. A sort of blank slate partner who can’t have a life outside the life presented through the camera.

It's a big no no, as is alcohol, tobacco or even a hint of weed consumption.

The young folk who dare to enjoy themselves like any other teen or twenty something are paraded in front of the media, made apologise and basically eaten alive by the gerontocracy.

It does explain further down in the article that a lot of these performers have obsessive fans who might stop buying stuff if they were forced to face the awful truth that they don't actually have any chance with the woman they fantasise over.

A kind of similar situation to Brian Epstein keeping the lads girlfriends out of the picture during their boyband phase.

I’ve seen K-pop stars having similar problems but it does seem that these situations are even more common in Japan, a fair few idol girls have had similar problems when they gone off script and I know a couple of V-tubers* have had absolute nightmare times when doxxed or gone off script in a stream

*V-tubers are virtual anime girls/guys who do things like twitch streaming - essentially live-streamed anime characters where the person behind it has at least some anonymity and people can watch the character instead - no I don’t get it

Boybands I can sort of understand, keeping girlfriends out of the frame because their fanbase is so heavy on the girls.

But what's with the 'punishing' of some 20 year old for taking a photo with a boy in the picture? Have they legions of young men who are idolizing them as some sort of available hotties? I always thought girl bands generally appealed to girls more than boys anyway. This is probably why I don't get any of this k-pop stuff either. It's all just a bit too contrived.
