Massive earthquake and tsunamis hit Japan

Reports of wave size vary on report. The BBC video doesn't look good tho if that's a river inlet in Tokyo? (edit: possibly not Toyko)

BBC showing oil refinery on fire in the east of the country and what looks like large areas of land underwater at the coast.

Hawaii and West coast of US on Tsunami alert! Blimey, meant to hit about 1pm if it lasts that long.

oh dear, some really bad damage from helicopter shots and fires burning.

My thoughts are with the people of Japan :(

LPG storage plant and refinery ...airport , steel works , even damage to walt disney ...very shot notice for alerts ,vertical evacuations go up rather than go to high ground , I dread to thing what the death toll is

My god, the BBC coverage is of a helicam just following the wall of water as it eats everything :(

there was an awful shot of around 10 vehicle driving up to a junction . waiting to get on to the main road ...and they just get taken

Im amazed how close packed in those LPG tanks are ..once one goes its going to cook of the others

the fire is in those spherical tanks bottom right ....this is way bigger than Buncefield

5 nuclear plants have scrammed automatically , no leakage reported

Jesus ...flames now several hundred feet in the air ..... At least they are burning rather than exploding

This is amazing. Look at that helicoptor shot of the water destroying everything.
Ive had a hell of a week this week but this makes me count my blessings. My little one gets a special cuddle this weekend.

Japan then and Japan now are seriously different though, in an architectural sense.

No doubt they are was just trying to get some measure of what a magnitude 8.9 quake would do. The pictures/videos look pretty awful but these things are often measured in loss of life and financial terms.

Super moon event.

If the Sun and Moon are on opposite sides of the Earth then that could account for increased volcanic activity.

As the Earths crust is being pulled apart and stretched thinner by the gravitational forces.
