Manchester United 19/20: You can't win anything with kids (revisited)

Manchester United failed to direct a single shot on target in a domestic league or cup game for the first time since January 2015 vs Southampton in the Premier League.

There was a comment that Lindlelorf and McGuire are the most expensive centre half pairing in the EPL . If it's true then surely they must be the most expensive pairing in Europe and possibly the world? Who else can we think of ?

Think they displayed the same breathtaking precision all out attack in a Europa game last year as well

Both have got Europa League and comparatively thin squads tbh . Wolves had a very hard set of fixtures over the festive season . Only watched glimpses of it but not sure if Utd had a shot on target , would have expected Ole to go for glory .
One could argue that two teams with thin squads and a lot of fixtures would balance out?

liverpool kids beat a full strength everton and our kids lost 2-1 to Asanta a whothehellarethey team. what a mess.

Manchester United's midfield players in the Premier League this season:
Lingard 0 goals 0 assists
Fred 0 goals 0 assists
Pereira 1 goal 3 assists
Mata 0 goals 0 assists
McTominay 3 goals 1 assist
Pogba 0 goals 2 assists

Raiola’s first statement on new client Jessie Lingard:
Man U have tried to ruin Jessie with their tactics, every week they said, have fun, don’t score or assist just dance when you get a chance. Still a young boy with a promising career. Barcelona and Real Madrid are interested.

Anyway, the big game this evening :hmm:

Two legs for the Carabao Cup seems a bit much to me.
League Cup winners receive £100,000 prize money (awarded by the Football League) with the runners-up receiving £50,000
Hardly seems worth it.

Compare the Utd victory at the Eithad to that performance and what Maguire and McTominay bring to the defence and midfield respectively ought to be clear to even the dullest of wits (yes, you). In terms of rebuild Periera, Fred and yes Lindelof are squad players at best. Pogba is working his ticket. Matic was due to be sold this window so he needs replacing as well. The less said about Jones and Lingard and Mata (name a squad they would improve?) the better.

When fit, Tuanzebe ought to slot in beside Maguire. Romero for De Gea would also help stability. James too looks like he needs a break. On the other hand although he was outnumbered on occasion Williams stuck impressively to his task. Ditto Wan Bissaka on the other side. While from the slimmest of pickings Greenwood picked up another assist to supplement his impressive goal tally. Levitt, Garner and Gomes should all be given more game time going forward. This may still be regarded as a risk but there really is no other viable alternatives.

Pretty scathing from the MEN

There were some boos at half-time and full-time. The singing section near the Stretford End remained supportive but there was a whiff of mutiny about Old Trafford. Some supporters turned on Jesse Lingard, an improbable selection at No.10 again, and the ponderous passing was anathema to the thousands who left 15 minutes before full-time. Thousands did not bother attending. "They're here, they're there, they're every f------ where, empty seats," the City fans chanted.
Phil Jones had a worse 45 minutes than at Sheffield United. Lingard's substitution was cheered by supporters. Andreas Pereira was swamped. United maintain they will only sign players this month if the right players are available to improve the squad.

LOL. Only numb nuts think McTominay is a 1st team player. He wouldn't even get in the starting 11 at City or Liverpool. He is a squad player. Fred was a shite buy and needs to be sold. This nonsense about giving youth a chance will set us back a generation. Tuanzebe to play? LMFAO. Garbage. How to fuck can we achieve top 4 with Tuanzebe and Maquire partnership? Not a player worthy of playing for a United Team. Obi Wan Bassika hasn't impressed much. But we will have to stick with him. Maguire is shite but we will have to stick with him.

What was worse was that we lost to a team who for majority of the game were playing without a striker!!:rolleyes:

We have pochettino sat at home doing nothing, while this clueless Norwegian is leading us to disaster after disaster. From Molde to Cardiff to United. WOW.

I think McTominay does ok tbh , hes one of the few to put in a full shift and for a defensive midfiled player gets the odd goal

Agree. McTominay is old school Utd. Brave, honest direct, committed. It's also worth noting that he has less than 50 PL appearances and yet according to Nicky Butt, a formidable midfielder himself, McTominay is for him the 'first name on the team sheet'. At is 6.4 and almost 90 kg he is of course aggressive but surprisingly quick across the ground. As a consequence he is one of the most fouled players in the league. More importantly, in spite of just turning 23 he is already a leader on the pitch. A hallmark of a genuinely good player is that he improves those around him. With him, Fred can even look like a half decent footballer. Without McTominay holding the other end of the halter the Brazilian international struggles to come across as anything less than mediocre. With McTominay you have the basis of a midfield. Without him you have what was served up yesterday.

Kevin De Bruyne says Manchester City spent just 15 minutes preparing the false-nine tactics that helped to blow Manchester United away in the first half of Tuesday's Carabao Cup tie

says it all, really. just 15 minutes.

Maguire would walk into that City team. Only a complete clown would pretend otherwise.

I rate McTominay myself but think he is in a bit of a poisonous culture at Utd right now.
Players like him should be learning from other players and establishing themselves in a team, not put alongside Lingard against Man City. The challenge Utd face at this time is attracting new players given the current ownership, recruiting, managers, players and chances to win trophies/play in Europe.

I rate Maguire highly.
(Nowhere near as highly as VVD of course)
If Maguire was put in the defence of a functioning team/squad he would shine. That is not the case at Utd so he is scrabbling to try and cover others shortcomings rather than lead and organise. I know Utd paid £80m for him (more than VVD ffs) but he can't shine shit for them. If he had some half decent defenders around him then he could find his place in the squad. Jones FFS
