Man United - the team that gets me excited? 2024-2026

Ferguson let go as club Ambassador to save over £2million a year. That's some sum but I guess manager's don't get pensions and admittedly the old sod probably earned a pension for what he did for the club. They'll probably spunk it on penalty kick bonuses for Bruno Fernandes.

Not a United fan, but curious to see how Man U fans feel about this. I was checking the Red Cafe forum yesterday and there were compelling arguments for and against.

It seems disrespectful, but then Fergie most definitely doesn’t need the money, but then the club could surely afford the £2m a year wage without any financial strains. And so forth. What are U75’s Man U fans’ thoughts on this?

Presumably the role involves a multi millionaire octogenarian being paid £2,000,000 a year just to turn up to matches and say a few words to other very rich people. Don't give a fuck about it really, though I'm also developing a healthy dislike for Radcliffe to be honest.

I have to say when I think about it in greater detail, it does seem both unnecessary and petty for a club of the size of Man U. £2m per year surely is not a back breaker for United. And even from an unsympathetic accountant’s point of view, it’s not as if the position is going to exist for that many years given Alex Ferguson’s age. Surely in the grand scheme of things, it’s not going to break the bank however many more years Fergie carries on.

All that's true and they wouldn't be doing this if the Ineos 'revolution' hadn't left them in the bottom half of the table.

When Radcliffe announced he was getting a consortium together to bid for Chelsea , when the club was being sold, my heart sank.

Anway latest odds on the next manager are :

Ruud van Nistelrooy 5/2

Gareth Southgate 3/1

Michael Carrick 6/1

Kieran McKenna 8/1

Graham Potter 9/1

That would be RvN's final revenge on Ferguson - he gets the managers job and Fergie loses his £2m schmoozing gig.

I think it is too early to judge INEOS in any meaningful way.

The39thStep respectfully, Chelsea are still a far bigger shambles by comparison regardless of some recent results, not least with the fact they buy, sell and loan players in a way that is no doubt more than a bit fishy and certainly not a great example of how a football club should be run. United are still comfortably behind Chelsea in terms of manager merry-go-rounds!

I think the selling Mount buying Sancho was a great example of selling and buying tbh .

to be slightly more serious... I think any attempt at the moment to hold chelsea up as a club who do good business or support youth players - not even sure what the guy is on about with the palmer/mount thing but I guess that's what you're trying to get at - is pretty ridiculous. I have a chelsea supporting mate and he has spent the last few years banging on about what a farce the club has become under the American guy; endless comings and goings and a million players bought and then out on loan. it's both a bit of a shambles and also everything that is wrong with modern football clubs.

There's a strong argument that Chelsea have been the 2nd worst run in the PL over recent seasons. The bloated contracts, stockpiling young players, overpaying for squad players, the revolving door of managers and coaches.

But their performances and results so far this season have shown the first glimpses of a hare-brained plan coming together; relatively settled team with decent quality subs and reserves, a manager implementing a defined style of play, and (as the Palmer/Mount comparison was meant to show) an uptick in quality of the personnel.

I'll give you 3 guesses who the worst are.

Brentford turning up to OT with a coup de grace in their pocket? Though, for some weird reason, I think United might win that one. Astonishing, I know, but that's just what I think.

Phew, another victory! Another point and they'll be above Bournemouth! And that slacker Ferguson closes this moment to bow out!!??

And, I don't know whether to dream this, by Christmas we could have a positive goal difference!

Didn't see it, at North East Calling. Though I did see a bit of Arsenal getting marmolised. :(

Is ABC(ity) a thing now, cos that's me.
Bournmouth were good. They are a fast pressing side with a bit of physicality, plenty of wing play.

Chelsea are Everton on steroids, but with a younger squad. (And my stepdad is a Chelsea fan and he can't stand Boehly.)

Mourinho still trying to win the Premier League in 2018. “I think we still have a chance to win that league if they punish Man City. And then they have to pay me the bonus and give me the money!”

Can’t argue he’s good value. Seems to still love United.

I always thought if Rangers were in the Prem they'd bomb but if the the Europa League table is anywhere to go by they would finish somewhere between Spurs and Man United.;)

Not the worst point. Never an easy place to go blah blah, plus they have some decent players and the Mourinho effect. Good going forward but still give away far too many chances. Two shite teams at home next so need to win those. Albeit it’s hard to give a toss about these European competitions now they’ve dicked around with them so much.

The rules for qualification in the Europa are something like choosing which house you go to at Hogwarts, but if I've got it right, they play 8 games in the group stage and have to avoid being in the bottom 12. Squeaky bum time. :D

I hope they rethink it - mainly the Champions League. Just feels like they’ve got rid of any jeopardy and added a load of matches nobody cares about as they don’t seem to matter (or at least nobody knows if they do).
