I wish this meant he was on the way out. Mais hélas. . .

They are reporting that there were over half a million demonstrators out in Paris today.

The french news are now saying that the protest turnout in Paris was between 96,000 and 500,000. So quite accurate then.

This is probably pretentious twaddle, but here goes ..

By the time I get to France, I will be at the age made so famous by the Beatles song that describes a way of being retired that I can't get my head around (no "Cottages on the Isle of Wight" in my plans) ...
But I will still be two years off my own state retirement...

I'm making an effort to move to the French language for my news and am beginning to feel I might actually want to understand French history and politics - unlike that of my own country - where my interest ends at Saxon post holes on Time Team (I'm far more interested in how ordinary people lived) ... hopefully enough that I will both qualify and want to apply to become a naturalised French citizen ...

Being a fortunate boomer who was able to choose to retire at 60 at my own expense, the whole current business is very much in focus for me - in the context of my birth country let alone France ...

Remarkable to see a multi-tiered political landscape where actual communists get elected in some places - even if they lack real power - quite the antithesis of what the USA-leaning UK has become...
And it will be inciteful to see the EU that I feel an affinity to through the eyes of the likes of Mélonchon - and even Le Pen ...

There's at least one major demographic who are missing from those protests - as they are pretty well everywhere else ....

They're at it again.
Surprisingly little uncollected rubbish where they are ... bin men on strike until 30th ...

Going to the Senate today.
Talk of invoking an article of the constitution to force it through without a positive vote...

this just breaking now French media reports say opposition parties have tabled 2 no confidence votes in Macron and his government

Mélolonchon has cancelled the LFI one because Elisabeth Borne was making out that anyone who didn't vote for them was actively voting FOR the bill... or somesuch - I was only half listening...
Very few takers...
