Living off the land 100%

Stanley's latest catch.

Arggggefuckingargh. Laptop screen busted. Keyboard shortcuts, guess work and about a 100x60 pixel area visible. Just going to make cash to get to Lisbon and get things repaired/replaced. I bought this fucker because it was supposedly unbreakable (not cheap). Fuck knows how it broke so easily???

Laptop Nº 8 in less than 6 years :( Broken/stolen/broken/stolen/smashed by police/stolen/stolen/broken.

Hanging on here until Tuesday, but doubt I will even be arsed to charge this thing. May be quiet from me until Wednesday.

Anyone have any idea how much I should expect to be paying for a new screen and fitting on an Acer, Aspire One Cloudbook 11?

------------

Oh, and what is the keyboard shortcut to open Notepad? I really, really need this to open a file with passwords and stuff.

Thanks.

OK. Sorted. I can work with 100 pixel resolution until Lisbon.

Windows key, r.
Type notepad.
Enter.

I think people are getting a bit worked up about the risks here. He's not berry and mushroom picking, is he.

Not that many things which can kill you in Portugal and Stan would have to be pretty unlucky to get sick even if cooking most stuff properly.

Crabs and dead random seafood I wouldnt touch unless freshly caught, but being straight off ice, forraged for 2 euros from the local market I think he'll live to drink another day. ;)

I think he's been warned off at least a couple of potentially harmful foodstuffs over the course of the thread (some berries and an 'it looks like parsley').

You mean, you broke it.

Christ, you do live an 'alternative' life, no laptop nor screen is unbreakable, especially in the hand of a drunk.

Not cheap? The Acer Aspire One Cloudbook 11 sells on Amazon for about £170 new, that's cheap for a laptop.

Or, as techradar put it 'there is still such a thing as being too cheap'.

Being clever with your title was your downfall (plus whoever modded it was too lazy to read it's content). Complain. Feedback forum.
Nah, I'm never going to complain about mods. It's such a rubbish job and they're all volunteers. Mostly they keep this place pretty clean.

You lot are so contrite.

Think I am going to get a bus to Lisbon to get my laptop replaced/repaired. It is an essential work tool. This blind typing and keyboard short-cutting is too much for my brains. I prefer foraging.

I also prefer listening to good music. It still works for that...

Nazare is actually a very special place. First time I have actually felt the spirit of the Atlantic. Giant wave is awesome, but I shall returen in winter to see it more awesomer. I think I could live here very happily without tourists. It would be a great place for a New Years holiday. Very special. Lots of cool things going on. Very spiritual, and the World's biggest wave.

Lots of old women in apron dresses, shawls and headscarfes also. I would not mess with these fuckers. Hard as - if I get kicked out of town, it is these people who are gonna kick my arse!

It seems (after checking Google) it was cad, not herring. How the fuck am I supposed to know these things? I'm only just half way to 100%.

I will get there though you fuckers. Don't you bloody well doubt it.
If you're committed to living through picking food out of the wild, you have to know what it is. Not knowing could at best give you an upset stomach, at worst it could make you seriously or fatally ill. So yes, you want to do this 100%, you need to better educate yourself on what you are eating.

Also, why don't you settle somewhere and grow your own food? That's what living off the land means, living off the results of your hard work, enjoying things you gave grown or caught yourself. Not expecting others to give the results of their hard work for free.

Where to start... :D

You do realise that in order to reach 100% you would have had to start at 100%, right? No matter how hard you forage from here on in, you will never reach 100%

I don't know about that. There's a good case to be made that human beings are not really built for the life of settled farmer toil, see for instance Bruce Chatwin's The Anatomy of Restlessness. Stanley Edwards foraging is part of a grand romantic tradition, just traditionally with less beer and less bragging.
