King Charles III's time is up

I hope I don’t have to justify myself for the rest of my life for daring to state the following sentiment- I have certainly expressed my profound dislike for the monarch and all the leeching cunts that form part of it plenty of times in here.. But for what is worth, I was pleasantly surprised by Sausage Fingers’ message today.

I hasten to add I only watched it to keep company to my mother in law, who was the only person in the house who wanted to watch it. But instead of the long reflection about losing his mum and the stock clichés about the importance of family and blah blah, much of the message consisted of him paying homage to social, emergency, and NHS workers. Which actually felt like a snide rebuke of the government’s intransigence in the current situation.

Most likely a PR exercise, but it still felt to me as a subtle slap in the face to the Tories, which is always enjoyable to see.

I suspect it’s good for the monarchy to be seen more favourably than the government du jour by the great British public as it’s a reminder that they are a permanent fixture whereas politicians they come and go

He didn’t look very well to me. Even with his fingers hidden, his facial complexion was a mix of daytime-drinker deep red and ghostly white patches. What’s that, poor circulation, heart trouble?

Hope they’re not going overboard with the coronation festivities as I can’t see it being too many years before we do it all again for William.

Yeah, they're just a loveable tradition, they hold no power whatsoever.

The government asked King Charles for permission to pass its post-Brexit “world-leading” Environment Act because laws requiring landowners to enhance conservation could affect his business interests.

Environment minister Rebecca Pow wrote to the then Prince of Wales in 2019 to ask if he would accept section seven of the environment bill, which became law in November 2021.

When the act became law, ministers lauded it as a benefit of post-Brexit Britain. Then environment secretary George Eustace declared: “We are setting an example for the rest of the world to follow.”

However, the government then missed its own legal deadline for setting what it termed as “ambitious” Environment Act targets. When they did emerge, months late, conservation charities said the targets for nature, clean air and water were underwhelming and would not deliver the promised environmental benefits by 2030.

He was fine with it. Hooray! Also, let's not forget...

The Duchy of Cornwall brings in about £21m a year for the duke and his family. Revenues from the estate are passed to the Prince of Wales, now Charles’s son William, who uses them to fund his public, charitable and private activities.

Charles has previously interfered in government affairs when it threatened to affect his businesses. Last year, the Guardian revealed that he exploited a controversial procedure to compel ministers in John Major’s government in 1992 to secretly change a proposed law to benefit his landed estate.

Revealed: ministers sought Charles’s consent to pass conservation laws affecting his business

They're certainly working hard to push the narrative that this is all going to be wonderful, joyous and happy for us all and we should just get out and appreciate the good things in life like our wondeful monarchy.
Whilst we're still a long way from abolishing then, I think it is going to a damn sight harder than it was back in 1953.
I don't know if No 9 is going to organise a street party for this but very probably. Youngest Q is 21 on the 3rd May and Mrs Q has speculated aloud as to whether we can hijack the Coronation Street Party and turn it into a birthday party.

I think you might even have got away with this in Moscow, outrageous police response

"Prince and Princess of Wales’s visit to Cornwall marred by ‘blank paper’ protester. The man was detained after holding up a blank piece of paper as the Royal couple greeted crowds in Falmouth"
