There are a few "generous" ultra-Zionist donors to US political campaigns, just as there are big donors from the arms industry etc. US politics (and increasingly UK politics) is all about the money. It's not blind, unquestioning devotion to Israel right or wrong. it's blind, unquestioning devotion to large sums of money right or wrong.

I suspect it's "plata o plomo." Money (i.e. bribery) is certainly part of it, but imho intimidation is even more important. The reason the US Congress gave Netanyahu 63 standing ovations in one speech is that AIPAC officials were there taking notes. Anyone who didn't bob up and down like a trained seal gets targeted by them--meaning they'll fund their local opponents, spread slander against them and generally do everything in their considerable power to end their career.
If there is one thing that would change US/uk politics for the better, it would be making that kind of thing illegal.
It's just as relevant to the UK. It explains Starmer's defiance of public opinion and of his own rank-and-file.
That's not enough to risk WW3 over. The US/uk's unconditional support for Israel is not born of self-interest.

Culture, history, racism, settler history and deeply embedded ideas about the civilising nature of Empire, who qualifies as human and colonialism. There is no one reason, saying 'money' or 'lobbying' is always an easy out but there are centuries of reasons (mostly bad) for the US backing Israel.

That can't be it. Anti-semitism is more deeply embedded in Western culture than other forms of racism, and Christianity is based on the repudiation of Judaism. Any doubts about "who qualifies as human" would be directed against Israel, not in its favor.
