Keir Starmer's time is up

The thing that does concern me is if Starmer gets in and wants to go for much closer ties with the US to replace European ones. Letting American companies sue us for lost income would mean an end to stopping privatization, plus an end to windfall taxes on obscene profits (not that we have it now admittedly).

Didn't the government just sign up to such a deal?

Interesting news piece on how Liverpool Labour are fighting the elections against Liverpool Community Independents, a group the left the Labour Party over budget cuts

Despite the smear campaign he won his seat,
“And if that one hurt, well the defeat to another Community Independent, Sam Gorst in Garston will be felt for even longer. Labour had thrown just about everything at the south Liverpool seat but Cllr Gorst and his independent colleague Lucy Williams edged out the ruling group to make it an impressive three wins for the Community Independents. Make no mistake, Labour really, really didn’t want to lose those seats and they will sting.”

I think this is an achievement. Tried to get an independent Labour elected in my ward some time ago. The labour party went into over drive to stop it. Didn't use these kinds of dirty tactics. But against a well funded party it is not easy to run a campaign. So all credit to them.

Also shows that a dirty personalised campaign does not work with voters.

Im all for more independent Cllrs. Who stick up for residents. Put them first.

Local democracy would be a better place if the two main parties did not have such a stranglehold on local democracy.
I agree in general, but our independents this way are single-issue candidates (stop the incinerator that's been up and running for 5 years already) and more than a little bit right wing outside of that.

...and the horny-handed son of the (donkey enriched) soil followed it with this utter shite...

The BBC asked Keir two very clear questions. Here's my accurate representation of his responses.

BBC:"Would you do a deal with the SNP?"
Keir: "Absolutely not. They believe in breaking up the United Kingdom, and I disagree with that view entirely"

BBC: "Would you do a deal with the Liberal Democrats?"
Keir: "Well, look. Fibble hatstand twaddle, topsy-turvy cumberbatch. Fibble flobble ping-pong Dubstep Garage Techno."

He has gone for 'We are a government in waiting' to 'Well, look. Fibble hatstand twaddle, topsy-turvy cumberbatch. Fibble flobble ping-pong Dubstep Garage Techno' in a week.

The guy is full UKIP. Our best outcome here is him getting the top job at the behest of the Lib Dems/Greens and/or socialist campaign group (who are also useless fuckers)

Tbf As appalling as Farage is he has never sunk to the level of ping pong Dubstep

AFAIR CLP affiliation means that, for an affiliation annual fee, accepted groups would be able to have representatives attend meetings and vote in selection processes.
wrong way round, that is for groups affiliating to the CLP. CLP's affiliating to organisations usually means they get a delegate to any of that organisation's meetings. Each group would have its own rules though.

I think Republic is the only name added since the list was sent around in February - and that was a list of groups that either didn't exist, didn't take affiliations or had long been excluded anyway.
