Several people dead at Edgware Road. :(

My parents are in a coach on their way to London to visit -- looks like they'll be turning back.

So it was just the one bus, or have the other two happend and not just been confirmed offically?

what probably happened is that there was the one explosion, which caused lots of people to phone the police, giving different directions/areas/names. This gets reported as being differnet explosions, IYSWIM

To counter the general mood, large Museums in South Kensington are open completely normally.

Small number of visitors at the moment, though.

I know SW7 is a long way from most of the reported incidents, but I do think there's a danger of saying EVERYTHING is in chaos, when to me the picture seems a bit more varied than that.

I posted too soon earlier on it seems. See my post further up about internal evacuation. Sorry!!

BERLIN AP:

A group calling itself "Secret Organisation - al Qaida in Europe" has posted a claim of responsibility for the series of blasts in London, a German magazine reported Thursday.

Der Spiegel magazine reported that the group posted its message on a website popular with Islamic militants, which it did not name.
It said the group claimed the explosions were in retaliation for Britain's involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"Rejoice, Islamic nation. Rejoice Arab world. The time has come for vengeance against the Zionist crusader government of Britain in response to the massacres Britain committed in Iraq and Afghanistan", read the statement, a photograph of which was displayed on Der Spiegel's website.

"The heroic mujahadeen carried out a blessed attack in London, and now Britain is burning with fear and terror, from north to south, east to west", it said.

The statement went on to warn the governments of Denmark and Italy that they would face "the same punishment" if they fail to withdraw their troops from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Charles Clarke said Woburn Place which is between Russell Sq. and Tavistock St. which may have led to the '3 buses' confusion.

No two of my old work colleagues are there at the moment feeding me the stuff on the live feeds as it comes in.

re. blood supplies

someone from royal london hospital says blood supplies have been fine, and well managed. so its probably best to stay put if you wanted to give blood, and were in london

I'm in one of the buildings on Bank Street opposite the tube and we've been told the safest place to be is inside. Anyway theres no way of going anywhere except on foot and its raining so I'm waiting here for a while. Go to get back to Wimbledon, god knows how?

Just spoke with someone who's a civil servant (works between the MoD and Downing St). He said everyone is ok, the atmosphere is very tense and the local police have all been replaced by armed police. None of them are allowed to travel so they're stuck there for the time being.
