Is Elon Musk the greatest visionary or the greatest snake oil salesman of our age?

Any media organisation that opposes trump should right now be stirring shit by running big stories about how Musk is effectively the real president, that he eclipses Trump and Trump does everything he asks of him because he is weak. A Time Out cover with Musk on it with the phrase ‘America’s 47th President?’ written underneath. See how long the bromance lasts once that becomes a public perception.

The fucking gall of Musk to say "we have to reduce spending to live within our means. And, you know, that necessarily involves some temporary hardship.”

Well, if you and your mates gave up even a fraction of your billions, at no impact to your lifestyle at all, possibly nobody would have to ensure hardship at all, but of course the little people are beneath your notice and don't deserve a crumb of your 'hard earned' money

Jason Barnard, the chief executive of Kalicube, spent nine years gathering three billion different data points that Google uses to decide what is factual information.

He told Sky News that although X has a long-standing agreement with Google to allow the search engine to use X posts to help it understand the world, Google's trust appears to be waning.

"Bluesky is 20 times smaller in terms of the number of people on the platform," he says. "If you search for people [on Google], you will find Bluesky 10 times less often than you will find X.

"But," he says, "it's 10 times more important to Google today for factual information."

Fake news shit holes like "X" explain why so many people fall down the Trumpist rabbit hole.

Hope bluesky can find a way to contain the inevitable influx of arseholes and bots when it starts getting more known/twitter dies off.
Britain First are already getting posts labelled for intolerance and Farage was on there briefly but apparently got suspended. When i did a search for him this was the first account that came up:

E2a apparently the account that looked as if it was Farage was, in fact fake.

This just popped up on my YouTube feed by a channel entitled ‘achieve success’. This incoherent gibberish from Musk is apparently regarded as ‘brilliant’ pedagogical advice by his idiot fans

Did he do this and say those things for charity, is there a Red Nose Day equivalent over in the States? Like he’s had to do and say those things because he lost a bet? Or is he just fucked on Ket?

This is in incredible if you think about it. Musk is a private citizen who holds no office and has no legal status but is so full of his own shit that he feels he can effectively start dictating to the head of a foreign sovereign power.
Yes 👍 I sometimes think that this is the beginning of the end 🥴

If the bluesky exodus is real this is actually important. I hope it has legs. I want him to be forever associated, something he just can’t bullshit his way out of this time, of turning a flawed but viable mass social media platform/experiment into a rancid cesspit of potential school shooters and far right drips and lunatics. It’ll be a small but fairly meaningful blow to tech capitalism.

That thing about teaching to a problem. Yes that has validity. But adult education, learning and use skill. But it’s just pub man talk when it comes to school education. It’s not genius nor particularly insightful. I know obvious. Give me my TEDTalk.

Heard today “politics as trolling”. And it made a lot of sense. He’s just trolling. Sort of fun circa 2004 on an uptight Facebook group but it’s a bit passé. Most Adult People have little taste for it. But he seems to think it reasonable to troll the world on a sort of global scale, to troll life and death issues, to mass troll vulnerable minorities, to troll peoples livelihoods, to troll historic political and legal processes, troll mass media communication by buying it up and using it as self advertising. Maybe it’s what the system needs, absoloute bellends like this, but I doubt it.

Nah, it's already the case that I have to ignore people who're new to the platform because no-one invited them during the invite-only phase for bloody good reason.

We can't all have the amazing work ethic of billionaires running multiple major corporations whilst simultaneously sorting out government inefficiency.

This is in incredible if you think about it. Musk is a private citizen who holds no office and has no legal status but is so full of his own shit that he feels he can effectively start dictating to the head of a foreign sovereign power.

He has a history of this:

Elon Musk says he refused to give Kyiv access to his Starlink communications network over Crimea to avoid complicity in a "major act of war".

Kyiv had sent an emergency request to activate Starlink to Sevastopol, home to a major Russian navy port, he said.

His comments came after a book alleged he had switched off Starlink to thwart a drone attack on Russian ships.

A senior Ukrainian official says this enabled Russian attacks and accused him of "committing evil".

Russian naval vessels had since taken part in deadly attacks on civilians, he said.

"By not allowing Ukrainian drones to destroy part of the Russian military (!) fleet via Starlink interference, Elon Musk allowed this fleet to fire Kalibr missiles at Ukrainian cities," he said.

"Why do some people so desperately want to defend war criminals and their desire to commit murder? And do they now realize that they are committing evil and encouraging evil?" he added.

The row follows the release of a biography of the billionaire by Walter Isaacson which alleges that Mr Musk switched off Ukraine's access to Starlink because he feared that an ambush of Russia's naval fleet in Crimea could provoke a nuclear response from the Kremlin.

Ukraine targeted Russian ships in Sevastopol with submarine drones carrying explosives but they lost connection to Starlink and "washed ashore harmlessly", Mr Isaacson wrote.

Starlink terminals connect to SpaceX satellites in orbit and have been crucial for maintaining internet connectivity and communication in Ukraine as the conflict has disrupted the country infrastructure.

SpaceX, in which Mr Musk is the largest shareholder, began providing thousands of Starlink satellite dishes to Ukraine shortly after Russia launched its full-scale assault on its neighbour in February last year.

However you feel about how he handled this, we should ask if we really want one person on the planet with this much power, let alone someone who has proven themself to be a bit of a nutjob.
