The whole thing is grim.

I wonder whether the rebellion has the gas too actually overthrow the regime, at the moment they are being executed one by one, and stupid excuses being made when protesters die in custody. Fell off a bridge, yea right :(

Can anyone point me to some good reading material about the Shah and pre-revolution Iran in the 20th Century?

I have a Persian friend who is totally anti-regime but to the point where she basically glorifies everything about the Shah which IMO is a bit OTT, and every other post on social media is some sort of hero worship of him and his family. Obvs I'm sympathetic for the nostalgia in the current climate but feel a bit of perspective is required.

If you don't mind listening instead of reading, the 5-part miniseries on The Dig podcast is pretty good.
