International Women's Day

I'm not particularly fond of International Women's Day. For one thing I don't see why I need to settle for one when I should have 184 or so of them, if we're being equal. Or, we can try 365 for a few thousand years till we settle up.

this. womens day is a bloody insult.

'things' have days, not people.

if yer a dude dont be fucking calling yourself feminist. it's fucking insulting that women cant have just ONE THING to call their own.

men calling themselves feminist is usually a cover to campaign that women can sell sex so that they can keep their entitlement to womens bodies.
I think male feminists are a very helpful & needed thing but only the proper ones, of which you're right there are probably very few.

Try telling my mother that last Sunday.

being a mother is a role which is a thing, unless you wanna argue about it which I'm guessing you do, but I really cant be arsed what anyone thinks about my opinion - as is my right - so there you go

I aint here to have an agreement love in.

lol 'male feminists' the only 'male feminists' I see are those vocalising it for an attention, to get everyone on their side, to cover up their misogyny and to coerce girls into sex work with the massive lie of empowerment.

if you are a man that has to claim feminism then theres something really wrong with you imo.

James Deen anyone???

yeah thought not.

Wait.. You don't want to argue ? What are you here for then?

why do you feel it's appropriate to question me?

am I not allowed to state what I do and dont want to argue about?

do I have to force myself into arguing about what everyone else wants me to?

I dont think I do.

you can argue if you want tho, feel free.

pengaleng You can ignore what you feel like ignoring & argue with whatever you feel like arguing with. For example, you are totally free to ignore me if I say I don't agree with that post of yours up there that says

So you can ignore me saying that's bollocks - there are genuine male feminists out there, they do exist even if they are few & your idea that "all men who say they are feminists are just trying to legitimise sex work so they can shag girls for money whilst feeling like they're empowering them" is just kind of tragic and a bit ignorant.

ok then if you think I'm tragic and ignorant about sex work and male feminists lol I prefer to think of it as clued up more than you'd think

I'm not saying that. Men who pay for sex & call themselves feminists at the same time I wouldn't touch them with a very long pointy stick & gloves on. Unless they paid me.

Ye gods... What I love about this thread today is... ermmmmmmmmmmmm..... feminism, IWD ermmm... The issues today are no different to any other day? :hmm: Looking on the bright side and all that, almost as if everyday is women's and everything that exists day.

At work today this woman came in to buy vodka, she is nice I usually chat with her for a bit when she buys fags, anyway she said she was getting vodka cos her friend decided that they would all celebrate international women's day and she asked me what that was so I mansplained to her about the history of it a Soviet holiday, she thought it was cool or at least pretended to

Why? Can you explain what you mean? A bloke just saying "I'm a feminist" is shit, that's true, but what about actions, acting like one. That's a real thing that happens sometimes.

Why? Can you explain what you mean?

because men have everything, why are they trying to claim feminism? this is a problem, it's not theirs, they should support but not claim. ******IMO*****

ALSO: why do they have to be so vocal about the whole thing? why now?? why campaign to legalise sex work?

it smacks of ulterior motives.

Why? Can you explain what you mean?

I don't know what he or she means exactly, she/he can speak for himself but I personally hope that my every day actions are in keeping with feminism so far as is possible. Blokes who announce that they are feminist, I have even heard one bloke tell his partner he was more feminist than her, usually strike me as the sort of people for whom feminism is just a performative way of accumulating (sub)cultural capital.

Reminds me of Matthew 6:5.

I would if I could be arsed, but it all features so regularly in my actual life that I just cant bring myself to do it tbh

the whole thing is a trick, the empowerment, the self esteem, it's lies created by a male dominated porn industry, it's worked well...

feminist men: 'you shouldn't harass women and you should respect them, but I'm still fully entitled to go buy some pussy to use' << doesn't quite gel.

even if a man is respectful to you when he's paying you for sex, doesn't mean that the act itself is a respectful one < the sex work advocates of the third wave and their 'choice' has conveniently forgotten this

'choice' only exists for those who are already comfortable.

and this is making me feel a bit sick about going back to work next week.

I think I get what you mean, it often strikes me that the most strident (male) advocates of the decriminalisation of sex work are actually angrily trying to defend the fact that they want to have the right to womens' bodies and see what they are arguing as a moral absolution of that.

yep, it's quite sad.

IME younger guys <28ish are becoming some of the most sexually entitled, selfish people around in regards to sex work

why campaign to legalise sex work?

There are plenty of sensible arguments to legalise/regulate sex work that wouldn't be considered traditional feminist arguments - yes, there is the right to do what you want with your own body, but also harm reduction/general libertarian arguments. Also consider that many people who would legalise sex work might also want more support for those involved in sex work and a bigger safety net so there's less chance of people (female, male, transgender) really being forced into it.
