International Cricket

Broad and Anderson are a good example of a pair that came together due to a brutal axing of a long-term regular. They first played together in NZ after Hoggard and Harmison, two heroes from the 2005 Ashes had been dropped mid-series. Hoggard never played again.

And that's right imo. It's as it should be. In a way, Ashwin quitting because he's pissed off he's not being selected is the right way for a player to go. It's a shame he's going off in a huff and he didn't want to stick around and support the team until the end of the tour, particularly as India could still win the tour. But that's the only bit of it that is a shame, imo.

From this article it sounds like it was his choice? Could be a statement written by a PR of course

So McSweeney dropped, replaced by the 19yo Konstas. I saw him play in the BBL the other day and he's quite special but I don't think I can cope with the lip curling thing he does when awaiting a delivery.

Interesting though that he's thrown in his BBL contract after a match or two in order to join the Test team. Do the national associations have a deal with the franchises where they can pull players out?

Poor and unnecessary from Kohli:

Virat Kohli fined for Sam Konstas clash in Melbourne Test

Very silly from Kohli. I was watching when that happened. Konstas was not phased one little bit. If anything it probably just reinforced how much he had them rattled.

What Konstas did won't always come off - aside from the two missed scoops, he also charged and missed a few yahoos. But even Bazball hasn't quite done what he did to Bumrah. On debut. In front of 85,000 people!

I watched the first couple of hours last night and Kohli was being a right little bitch even before that shove. It did rattle him though.
Not noticeably to me. As Isa Guha said on commentary when he smacked a near-six a couple of balls later, his shoulder seemed to be OK.

But yeah, kohli had been giving plenty of verbals before the shove. They didn't work either.

I was watching that too. What a dick. I don't mind grudges built up over years of antagonism. But a 19yo kid on debut? I've seen two interviews with the lad and he comes across very well. Not cocky. Which must kids would be having been thrust into that cauldron.

Kohli should be ashamed.

Indian batsman, Sunil Gavaskar, batting against England at Lord's in his 5th test match at the age of 22:

This is gonna be a high scoring draw by the looks. Docile pitch. And a bit of weather about. Which kind of fucks the juicy bet I put on the Aussies when they were in a bit of disarray.

On another note, as a former keeper myself, max respect to Alex Carey standing up to the stumps to both Marsh and Boland, both of whom were putting it through at 130+. No idea how you can do that.

South Africa now 19-3 chasing 148 to win. They need one more win to get to the WTC final from this match or the next.

Abbas wreaking havoc. First test for four years for some mystifying reason. You can succeed at test cricket if you're a bit slower, if you have the skills.

Light fading quickly, so what do they do? Drinks break, of course. Then come off one over later.

Oh cricket. :(

121 more to get, seven wickets left. Pitch is helping the bowlers. Surely you would rather be SA, but this is right on the edge.

The individual justifying the shoulder charge sounds like Ted Dexter.
Yes it does sound like him. Feels a bit too early for it to be him. He would have just retired, but yes it could be him. In is defence, I don't think Dexter the batter would have made a fuss about that. He wasn't one to be bothered by much.

Apparently Reddy scored 440 as a 16yo playing for Mumbai (and then went and took loads of wickets). He looks like a proper batsman, not sure what he's doing down at 8.

The Indian Cricket Council has now issued its final ruling on the arrangements for the Champions Trophy 2025:

"Dubai has been confirmed as the venue for all matches of the Champions Trophy 2025 involving India, including one of the semi-finals and possibly the final, too, if India get there."

Champions Trophy 2025: Dubai to host all India matches, including the knockouts if India qualify

"The arrangement continues a theme of ICC events: sporting integrity being sacrificed to accommodate India."

Cricket’s integrity has been sacrificed to accommodate India in Champions Trophy debacle

It's been discussed quite a lot on here. Here's a few members of the national team posing with senior Taliban.

It's disgusting, I agree. And disappointing that top players such as Rashid Khan will play for them. When they won't even let women play sport.

How are fans protesting? Are you boycotting?

In what way can I boycott?
Don’t watch it

Write to the ECB
Contact all the players asking if they’re happy to play against men who lock women and girls inside houses with no windows, forbid them to speak or have access to education. They’re sex and food slaves.

If men were being treated like this, there’d be international boycotts.
