I million workers come to UK: defacto open borders?

yeah I totally agree with violet pansy and the other deluded arseholes its just to scare colonels as we have such an abundance of social housing and our education system is not failing a third of all kids and we are not building new prisons to house those kids that lacking the skills to compete for jobs turn to crime, great surely room for millions more! And I totally agree with the fact people have been leaving since ww2 why not take it back further and include the amount of people who emigrated after the roman invasion anyway you forgot to mention that Becky P is a member of the BNP and her dad operated gas chambers

oh the joys of an ignorant life in stokey:p ( or hampstead )

More incisive political commentary from the village idiot's village idiot.

Perhaps if you stop sniffing petrol fumes for a few minutes your gibberish might make a bit of sense.

Isnt there something like 5 million immigrants living here (including EU and even Irish) and % million Brits living abroad?

Situation neutral.

How do the anti-immigration folks feel about employees of scary US detentions companies beating would-be immigrants in prison camps? Is that part of the nuanced position?

 you might note that the likes of me, Tree, mk, TB etc are drawing attention to immigration to draw attention to what capitalism is doing now. You and other liberals try to suggest that the ONLY alternative to open borders is fences and guns and beatings. in fact actually the solution comes from that immigation is not a natural phenomena but caused by supply and demand.

in the US and UK neo liberalism has so triumphed that bosses openly workers with the support of govt policies and recruit low skill low wage workers. IT IS KNOWN globally that the US and UK are countries which it is worthwhile to emigrate to, that there will be work available at the lowest common denominator etc

THIS is how we must deal with immigration by stopping the demand from scum like bernard mathews and the gang masters to the NHS and their cowboy cleaning spiv outfits

Want to post up some links to posts where guinnessdrinker and "other liberals" have suggested that "the ONLY alternative to open borders is fences and guns and beatings."?

If you can't argue using facts, then why bother to argue at all?

Muppet.

we can always relocate Bernard Matthews in Poland, but what is that going to achieve?

What, besides putting several thousand native East Anglians (including 2nd and 3rd generation Portugese) out of work?

Not a lot.

What is it exactly you plan to do though? That's what me and the other 'liberals' want to know.

Are you some kind of a trot btw?

relocating work abroad, one of the great debates and fears of french workers. even Perrier water is being threatened with relocation to China. they're not happy about it.

it would definitely add some spice to the debate....

He'd make some comment about what % of the world's population are in Higher Education, then make some comment about his brand of 'socialism'. Aye, I look forward to another predictable series of posts from him. :D

:D

I really fail to see why this issue gets the knickers of this bunch in such a twist. What is their beef, really?

If certain of them weren't so vehement that there is good as well as ill that comes out of any immigration then I wouldn't say they had any beef except sincere concern.
it's when they get so aggressively anti-immigration that I think their knickers might be twisting for less than sincere reasons.

It's also noticable that the replies of the knee-jerk tendency have little to do with the OP and it's (contentious) contents, and a lot to do with the generalised positions they've aired over and over again on other threads, never conveying any possible solutions, just "arguments" about the evils of emigration/immigration.
Personally I haven't taken Durutti seriously since he opined that fighting fascism was a waste of time and effort that could be applied more usefully to the general anti-Capitalist struggle, seemingly blind to the fact that if one allows fascism or neo-fascism a foothold, then anti-Capitalism goes down the shitter.

Hmm, does betray a cerain absence of tactical nous.

It's just plain weird to be lectured on capital's use of immigration as if it was some new and horrifying development, rather than the oldest of old hat.

Really?

Here in Mexico, and when I lived in Sudan, Canada was No.1 choice followed by Germany. The UK was WAY down the list of desirable destinations...

...whilst amongst my British friends (oddly) Canada is also No.1 choice followed by China, SE Asia and then Oz and NZ.

Imo you`re oversimplifying again.

maybe if violet wanka and yourself had access to knickers you would not spend 90% of your lives on these boards. Oh what weak egos you must have.My point was easy for most to see however i do accept violet that you and brewers droop are thick so i apologise. :D

More playing with usernames, dickhead?

Pretty much all you're good for.

The abuse is part of my confusion though. Why such vehemence on this particular issue? I mean, it's true both that employers use migrants to drive down wages and undermine worker's solidarity, and also that internationalism is a key foundation-stone for progressive politics.

I mean, the US part of my company just outsourced to India and sacked pretty much every single developer, and they only didn't do it to us (yet) on grounds of short-term pragmatics, so it's not like these issues are a million miles away from me in my ivory tower - and yet still I can think about them without soiling my trousers. Most odd.

Yes, but what does internationalism mean to you, and what does it mean to them, that's a question that needs to be answered. :)
Does it mean transcending nationalism in pursuit of class and politics-based relations, or does it mean something else slightly less "noble"?

It's a focal point for a sense of futility IMO. All the shouting and vehemence in the world solves nothing (only action does that), but you wouldn't guess that by reading the simplistic drivel (often leavened with a nice dose of social prejudice in brasicattack's case. He appears to believe that anyone who opposes his views lives in Stoke Newington or hampstead, and is middle-class, apparently. ) that the "must have borders" mob come out with.

You have to be a bit dubious about the motives of some of these people who seem unable to debate without throwing out all kinds of puerile little jibes.
Violent Panda seems to spend 25 hours a day on here telling people what they can and can't say! I wonder if he has a secret fetish for dressing up in uniforms.;)
