Hammersmith Bridge closed to motor vehicles "indefinitely"

I still don’t see why they cant knock it down and then reconstruct it so it looks aesthetically the same but is actually built stronger to withstand proper traffic.

If it means demolishing it for a short time then fine.

An appropriate human sacrifice of two prominent Londoners will need to be made, the bodies buried in the foundations of the towers. But who?

This looks essentially the same given a bridge is a bridge, and looks nice and strong.

Yes but I don't care. I haven't aged well either.

ETA: George Cole is still a pleasure to watch as is Patrick Malahide as the well-observed sarcastic DI Chisholm: "Perhaps you'd like a lift to the station in one of our special cars with the flashing blue light on top."
The persistent casual racism and homophobia grate like fuck.

How many major construction projects open on time and within budget 🤔
Lets face it, Johnson wasted nearly £100 million on the garden bridge and it didnt even get off the drawing board.

Estimated £125m and 7 years to reopen to motor vehicles
Ferry service in the spring

A friend of a friend was at a update presentation thing yesterday. The 7 year thing was the stand out and the disarray regarding funding. LBRUT are apparently keen to get this sorted but Hammersmith & Fulham less so. TFL are of course stoney broke.

I wonder if we can buy London Bridge back from the Americans?

Ideally the existing bridge should be knocked down and the ugliest bridge possible built in its place. The howls of outrage would be a good laugh.

Cant we sell them Hammersmith Bridge to rake in a few quid?
Make the fuckers swim?
Very good for fitness 👍

Why not build a dam? More concrete to bury people in and you get free electricity and more opportunity for watersports, plus no tides to worry about upstream.

Google 'Ham Hydro' and then scale up the problem a million times. Plus we'd get no more seals and the tides are cool anyway. Nothing better than getting stuck in The White Swan, Twickenham at high tide. No way out and another round is the only option.

£125 million could buy a lot of amphibious bicycles I reckon, and leave enough over for a permanent holographic projection of the bridge in place of the collapsed original.
Nah, you could buy vastly more water wings for that price. Distribute a pair to every Londoner and still have some left over. A kindness would be to install nets either side of the bridge 'lane' to prevent people being swept up or downstream by the tide.
