A lot of the dieticians and nutritionists I follow are deeply unimpressed with the government’s scheme. Partly due to concerns for those in recovery from EDs / those who are at risk of developing them, partly because it doesn’t tackle inequality properly and partly because they aren’t convinced the science is quite as clear cut as it is being presented as. Also the idea that the public needs to make change to ‘save’ the NHS as opposed to, you know, the miraculous concept of funding the NHS appropriately in the first place. Obviously folk being fit and healthy is a good thing but as with every government strategy, the nuance, complexity and money is missing.
I don’t eat out a lot. I really don’t wish to see the calorie content of what I’m eating. It’s a treat to be enjoyed, not something we should be made to feel anxious about.
