'Go to Ethiopia to kill'

Perhaps anti-racism is a stance for you; about political correctness and a good lefty education. Something you can drop or ignore if it's not convenient.

For me, it's not. I still feel the hurt even while totally supporting what he was doing. This isn't about telling the man himself of his incorrect position. But it's revealing to see who thinks this isn't a reasonable thing to consider here on this bulletin board.

Perhaps if he'd said 'go and shoot women' there would be bunch of men on here telling women that now isn't the time for their political correctness.

So much opinion from so little information. A talent to be sure.

Suck mah baws, you worthy twat.
All sorts of alternative lifestyles here on Craggy island.

Based entirely on some of the posts in this thread. Plenty of information there.

Is there? This is like that film 'They Live' - I think I might need some special sunglasses to catch up with you.

RIP Rowdy Roddy Piper

For some people, "feeling the hurt" now seems to be considered a substitute for even an attempt at rational argument.

You don't seem to be willing to make any attempt at considering what this man said or what it might mean, you have decided on the basis of a tiny amount of info what it means for you, and you now appear to be slagging off anyone who doesn't accept your assertion that what he said was terrible/racist/an incorrect position. Any chance of you trying to form an argument rather than just using emotionalism and merely asserting/insisting?

I'm on my phone, in the pub, rather than unwilling to engage with you. I'll post again when it's easier. But yes, I am feeling emotional about it. Have a think about why in the meantime.

There's nothing wrong with feeling emotional, or in including that in your post, but a discussion board is surely a place for discussion, which means we all need to explain what we're thinking, feeling etc rather than just make assertions based solely on emotion, which is what your contributions here seem to me to be.

I'm not going to try and guess what you're feeling or why you're feeling it, I'll wait for you to explain, if you don't mind.

Could someone explain what makes it racist? Is he saying "go to Ethiopia to kill" just because Ethiopia is far away (so just do this somewhere else), or because the soldiers actually were Ethiopian-Israelis, or because he just hates Ethiopians? Or is there some other historical context?

All four of those are perfectly possible but none of us really know.

But if we did know I would be a lot harder to have a fight about it so that's a positive.

You know, I don't really care. He is telling the soldiers not to kill children. Over and over, he's telling the soldiers not to kill children. And that's important because that's what the IDF do.

And some twat picks out one little phrase that's not clear and tries to swing the whole thing into the fact that he's some sort of racist and (presumably) therefore deserving of everything he gets....

Are you drinking pints of gin?

Mation don't give the wannabe bully boys the time of day, seriously. Fuck them off. Fuck their leading questions and their attempts to say your opinion based on experience and knowledge doesn't matter. Fuck their attempts to laud it over you by throwing around words like 'rational' and suggesting that your emotions are at play here and not theirs. They don't care what this man thinks and why, they just want to be 'right' and undermine you. They are building the same ivory towers that that those in power do, the agenda is thick as treacle, the difference is the only power they actually have is that which they imagine, here on Urban, it's a unfunny joke.

Damn right. They pick and choose because they can. It isn't about not understanding what the man meant and why...it's about understanding that despite that, it's still fucking horrible and one part of something a whole lot greater. Who feels it knows it.
