Glastonbury 2022

Sound on the Beeb ain’t great- like they’re not plugged into the board and have some mikes in the crowd.

They are definitely not. Not seen the Glasto set, but they were amazing when I saw them in Glasgow this year.
Was it a big venue? I saw them in Bristol at a venue that was quite cavernous. Half the audience were yapping anyway which doesn't help because it's the sort of music you just wanna lose yourself in.

I really don't understand what anyone gets out of Billy Eillish. So fucking dull. Not a single pop classic or even memorable tune.

I think her records are great but they don't really work on a festival stage. Maybe if they were rearranged for a live band with extra singers for the harmony bits, but she pretty much just has a drummer and a backing track.

~2000 people. I wasn't sure whether their sound would fill the room, but it did & everyone seemed to love it. They've done a lot to make themselves more appealing to a wider audience (the covers and medleys), but did enough of the more instrumental stuff so as they couldn't be accused of selling out (imo).

Ah I saw them 4 years ago so maybe they've improved since. They were supposed to play the bierkeller in Bristol which had a capacity of about 300 but it closed suddenly and they got bumped to a bigger venue. I probably would've loved it there as I really liked that venue.

They do have a few dancey numbers and I was expecting more of them live but it wasn't to be.

Reading the comments from people who were at the gig on the Guardian it sounds like a lot of people bailed after an hour of the dirges. I would have to to be fair. It was a little self-indulgent, climaxing with that awful tune about his new wife. It's a festival. It's saturday night. You have access to possibly the greatest back catalogue ever, just suck it up and play the hits man!

He did turn it around but I can fully understand why some of the paying patrons were disappointed.

I think he did his regular stage show - complete with the anecdotes -and as you say he should have just played the hits.

I'm wondering how he really is. I'm a bit worried he's just memorised his current stage show and anecdotes and that he's not that flexible outside of that routine.

It was definitely a set of two halves. The second half was so good, I thankfully forgot the first half. Had I been there, I'd have probably bailed after 45 mins.
It was self indulgent and the audience wanted a sing song.

However......he looked bloody amazing and the stamina was admirable. Its unlikely to be repeated, he looked as though he was absolutely loving every second. After all the tunes he's had a hand in, he can be self indulgent. I'm so glad it ended well.
