Freeman-on-the-land idiocies

I met a guy recently, lovely bloke, really friendly and welcoming - knew everybody. We were working in the day and then went for a drink and he started giving me all this stuff. "Did you know that police use what's called legal language and if you say you understand the charges then you're essentially pleading guilty? And I've got police mates and even they don't know about it, it's so secret, but that's what they are doing?" "If you get a birth certificate for your child then you've actually consented to them being governed by all of these laws? Same with the census, there are questions in there that are coded and if you answer them then you're agreeing you can be arrested. Parliament can't make laws, they can only make Acts of Parliament and if you don't consent to them then they don't apply to you..." etc etc.

It was weird cos he seemed like a really sound bloke up until that precise moment.
That was my experience of this in the wild, going back home and running into an old mate of a mate in the local who'd always been sound and bright. Depressing. His started with some bullshit about getting out of a speeding ticket I was told later.

Possibly my happiest day at work ever was when a supplier sent me a quote that came to £3141.59.

I never asked if it was deliberate, but really hope it was :D
The actual price was just over four grand, but by having such a specific figure the buyer knows it's legit and they're not being skanked.

I'm sad that I don't think I would have spotted it if I just saw the number, its only because you draw attention to it that I noticed it.

Unless you're getting an itemised list breaking down what costs how much, then any figure is going to be arbitrary. Absent that breakdown I would be more questioning of a bill for £4456.52 than one for £4500.00.

You want some properly spooky numerology bollocks? The latitude of the great pyramid at Giza in decimal degrees is the same digits as the speed of light in m/s.

Come to think of it, would any visiting aliens be de-facto sovereign citizens? They might have a case there... :hmm:

I actually had a discussion with someone once that said it proved something or other. I pretty much said what crispy just has. Unless the Egyptians had calculated the speed of light in miles per seconds and introduced latitude and longitude.

Like all points on the surface of the Earth, that would only be in a particular geodetic system and then only for a brief period of historic time (the African Plate is drifting at over 2 cm/year).
