Ahh no its Rhynie, a small town @25 miles away - Thought I recognised it as I've prob been in there but when it had a different name - Rhynie is also where I get my goat socks from & one of the places I go fishing is about two miles away.

:)

Where's Rhynie?

Confusingly, butterfly cakes are also known as fairy cakes to some people

those are angel cakes to me. Just to add another confusing term.

That's only if your angel or fairy is laying flat on their faces with their wings raised in the air. They're quite obviously butterfly cakes as butterflies fly that way up :p

tbf, i'd lie flat on my face on top of a cake. my mouth is on my front. fairies and angels aren't stupid.

Fairy cakes are the English variety. Not too much icing or OTT decoration. Cupcakes are Texan fairy cakes. Big, brash, conspicuous consumption, supersized. Too much icing and a bit overbearing. They never knew rationing or the concept of FHB.

Yes, we all know that now, but the fact is, most of us still call them fairy cakes (according to the poll). I shall continue to call cupcakes fairy cakes, same as I continue to call Snickers a Marathon

Well I am enjoying fairy cakes just now. :)

And if you want even more confusion -M&S had "cupcakes" on their bakery shelves which were tiny little iced fairy cakes.

So I'll just stick to funcy pieces FTM.

Oh and I got pancakes too. :)

Scotch, English,Welsh, French, Canadian, American....?

there must be Irish ones as well? :hmm:

I'm currently eating Hobnobs. No confusion there

Scotch of course.

Which are very similar to ones I have been served in Ireland - Although the Irish version usually accompanies a fry. :)

It looks like everyone calls Scotch pancakes Scotch pancakes, except the Americans with their larger version which aren't called Scotch pancakes
