F1 2020

Won't miss Grosjean. Mags was a bit more entertaining and less pissy but he was a bit rough around the edges...

I also won’t miss him, in fact I’d go further and say I can’t wait for his last race to be over. He’s always struck me as the driver most likely to kill someone with his poor judgement and frequent mistakes.

It looks like a lot of the cars on the medium tyre are suffering from graining. The commentators are suggesting a two-stop race may be on the cards.

That said, the new track surface is very green and there's a lot of rear-end slipping. I'd guess the safety car might be a bit busy, in which case there may be quite a few tyre changes.

Fingers crossed for a lively race.

The first half-hour of FP2 is a mandatory, blind tyre test. Teams have to complete the number of laps specified by Pirelli.

It looks like the tyre is a hard one, because the cars are pirouetting about. They're prototypes for next year. It looks like they're being asked to do about 15 laps.

Mrs D has just been watching her first practice session. She was telling me about how well the various teams were doing, and was pissed off with the Stroll/Verstappen incident, the car on fire had her shout “fucking get out! It’s on fire!” She was more into it than I was.

She‘s checked the flag meanings, was talking about how much the time differences would make over the race distance.

She was asking about getting a Haas face mask. But she’s not happy that KMag is going, but not too worried about Grosjean.

I‘ve created a monster.

Good morning, it seems the FIA will have to change track limits for qualifying and the race after 125 lap times were deleted yesterday :) Lots of rumors that Perez will replace Russell at Williams which would be a massive blow not only for him but also for Mercedes, he was expected to take the next Mercedes seat. New owners may well be more interested in the money Perez brings to the team than supporting a future Mercedes driver.

Red Bull appear to telling Albon he has two races to improve or he will not be in that seat for 2021 and they may well look outside the Red Bull stable for a new driver, the Hulk has to be top of the list.

Edit; just read that new track limits were put in place this morning, the FIA issued a document to show that track limits have been edited at Turns 1, 4 and 15. From now on, at Turns 1 and 4, times will only be deleted if drivers leave the track and cut behind the red and white kerb on the exits of those corners. However, track limits at Turn 15 (the final turn) are much stricter. Drivers will have their current and next lap times deleted if “no part of the car remains in contact with the track”.

This is a good example of why Brazil is the way it is today, it was a Portuguese colony and has that "near enough is good enough" philosophy, loads of people have said to me over the years they wish it had been a British colony because nowadays they'd have a great railway network and speak the international language of English hahahahahah

odd if Russel loses that seat

but this is an odd year
The thing is that Williams need the money even though they have new owners, if as is rumored Perez gets that seat it will be because he has massive backing from 3 of Latin Americas biggest telecommunications companies, Telmex, Telcel and Claro (my phone and internet provider). He is also much more experienced that Russel, who is likely to move from Williams to Mercedes when they call for him.

Interesting that both Mercedes drivers went medium while Max went soft tyres, Max would have got through on mediums so I wonder why the team went for softs, maybe they think he can get in front from the start, but I'm not sure that's a gamble I'd have taken. cvould be for race strategy I guess if they are doing more than a one stop

Perez, LeClerc, Gasly and Russell all seem to be outperforming their cars, or at certainly their teammates at least. Two of those may not have seats next year - how is that ok?!

I personally think Hulkenberg will get signed by Red Bull as a one year stop gap. Perez has similar pace and brings sponsorship, but Red Bull must surely value team harmony above all else, and Perez has clashed with his teammates a bit too often IMHO, whereas the Hulk has the maturity to keep Verstappen happy. If it costs Red Bull a little more because he doesn’t have the Mexican’s sponsorship cash, so be it - they can afford it, and keeping Max at the team is their top priority.

All IMHO! What do you think?
