England at the World Cup 2018

Sexy? Southgate looks remarkably like D.H. Lawrence, if that helps.

it's time for you to book an appointment with specsavers, idris

Listening to a Swede on Totally Football: "we don't concede. We don't score many either, but we don't concede".

Already thought it, but this really doesn't bode well for England. We've got to score from open play again soon, right..?

Sweden did a number on Italy in the play-offs, playing like the away team in their home match. At the time, I thought this was mostly down to Italy not being good enough - they blatantly just totally ran out of ideas by the end of that second leg. But here Sweden are now in the quarters. They're as bad a team as Greece were in Euro 2004, but can they keep doing a number on technically much more gifted teams?

I know 'it's coming home' :D but most of us would have settled for QF or hoped for SF before the tournament started.

What I pleased to see is the camaraderie in the squad and how Lord Southgate is managing it. Kane is the 'talisman' (for those that read the tabloid's) but the whole team is working together well. Good on and off the pitch with no ego's weighing them down. Reading social media posts made by the players is a sign they are enjoying the tournament

Oh, and I still think he makes subs too late. We'll never know, and obviously fresh legs in extra time was arguably a benefit, but remain unconvinced.

From the Guardian twitter feed:

“I’ve been thinking about how to mark England’s now-inevitable World Cup triumph,” tweets an excitable David Nicholas. “Gareth Southgate grew up in Crawley, near Gatwick Airport, which I’ve always thought was an ugly name. How about Southgate International? ‘Southgate’ even sounds like an airport terminal.”

He deserves more than a fucking airport. Maybe Crawley could be Southgateley

I'm trying to take the Danny Baker approach to this - if we can't get carried away supporting England at the World Cup, when can we? You'll enjoy it if you think big, and dare to dream.
So...England for the World Cup
