When one is served you get held and the UK government decides whether to accept it, if they do you have the right to go straight to the US or to fight it, if you fight it the UK government can bail you, with conditions that you hand over passport, put up a surety etc., or they can remand you in custody. They bailed him before with a surety (put up by many people) and he fled to the Ecuadorian embassy and AFAIK his backers lost a lump of dough over it.
