OK then: I do not consider Noam Chomsky an expert on the theory and/or practice of anarchism as a political philosophy. He is, on the other hand, an American linguistics professor with a neat line in How The Media Manufacture Public Opinion, who may have said in all irony, something like "well to be honest actual capitalism would be a step forward", in much the same way that Ghandi once said he thought western culture "would be a good idea". LOL, eh, lol.
Capitalism would clearly not be a step forward because it's where we are. To say it would be is clearly absurd and even if Chomsky did say it, he is not an authority on anarchism, nor as far as I'm aware has he ever claimed to be.
Hippies, on the other hand, claim all the time to be anarchists, but they're usually petit-bourgeois conservatives who are in my experience far more drawn to the strong charismatic matriarch or patriarch than to real horizontal power structures and collective decision making actual anarchism might entail.
