Lockheed Martin shares drop after Trump says F-35 program too expensive

When Trump's transition team was asked by reporters about Trump's tweet, the team said a clear message is being sent that Trump will fight for taxpayers.

Ok, but what about the thousands of Lockheed Martin employees who will probably lose their jobs because of this?
a gigantic turd right on US forign policy with its closest uber allies

I wonder if the trump tweets while on his golden throne ?

Implications with the UK , and its soon to be possibly redundant over large "helicopter" carriers and part time seaworthy football come cricket pitch ,,,'''''we can play cricket anywhere ..old boy that'll show these johnny foreigners the what too ....''''

Skybolt and the UK government s whole nuclear deterrent program getting arse fucked in the 60's anyone ?

and the rest of them......

He'll support plenty of arms industry boondoggles as he "rebuilds" the US military that Obama "hollowed out."
Trump wants an active-duty Army with another 60,000 soldiers in the ranks, an unspecified number of additional sailors to man the 78 ships and submarines he intends to see built in coming years. He wants up to 12,000 more Marines to serve in infantry and tank battalions, and at least another 100 combat aircraft for the Air Force.
Donald Trump's military will have more troops and more firewpower — if he can find more money

Trudeau said something similar when he was Prime Minister-elect:

Justin Trudeau, the leader of Canada’s victorious Liberals and soon-to-be Prime Minister, has vowed to cancel the country’s purchase of 60 F-35 Joint Strike Fighter jets from Lockheed Martin LMT -2.47% and instead focus on bolstering its Navy.

Hasn't happened yet, so far as I know.

Why don't the US just hack the Russians and copy the Sukhois ...?..a more upto date platform than the f15's for the price of a telephone call ?....

Are folks supposed to just ignore stuff that comes out of the mouth (or thumbs in this case) of the man who will soon be President of the USA, like he's your teenage nephew spouting off about something from his bedroom?
"Folks" are supposed to apply some thought before spouting rubbish. Perhaps remembering that politicians frequently make claims about what they intend to do, especially about making huge savings, only to backtrack.

PS You going to substantiate/retract your claim that J Ed doesn't believe institutional racism exists?

the US has vast fields of aircraft mothballed and needing only the requisite refits and training to use against the foes they actually face yet projects like the f-35 zombie on tooling up for wars of...what? Its all a massive massive scam, the UK manufactor for export so does the US. One of the biggest rackets going. And the glory of it all is what is known of these bullshit projects is only what has been allowed to be seen for public consumption. All the brown envelopes and dodgy relations not known or half-known. All a massive scam.

The weapon, the technology, the industry, the economics, the politics, the culture... it's all part of the tree. I think it's hilarious, there's nothing they can do about it either because it's their way. Lobby-on warpigs, lobby-on and choke on the fruit. Plus they want the UK and other NATO to fork out don't they, fucking marvellous.

I think the idea of military industry being profitable (let alone vastly profitable) is a serious mistake anyway, so why interrupt.

Show me the money. we are talking nukes not conventional weapons.
i know, making 10/1 for no war ridiculous odds.
it's pointless showing you the money as i make as much money as i want out of your odds. you lose whichever option comes in because you've done the odds wrong.
do not take up being a bookie. your odds are way out. look up ''overround''.

You have destroyed my big dream of being the new William Hill..I hope the first nuke goes off in your street /s

Joking of course...should it be something like 15/4 and other strategies?

Send me 200 quid and I work out what to offer, 9/3 or you do a multipler on say nuke war and there being a volcanic eruption in the uk by april 2017. 7/2.

The only flaw in your plan is that the first bet is open ended, so the bookie need never pay you if there is no war. "It'll never happen" is a poor bet to take!

Trump just seems a little drunk with power at this point - his tweets can shake up whole industries, they're being treated like the pronouncements of an emperor and he's clearly loving it.

If he actually seemed serious about pruning the military-industrial complex, that'd be one thing, but he's just as likely to start tweeting tomorrow about how Lockheed Martin is a fantastic American company that is going to supply some tremendous aircraft - or about modern peanut butter being too crunchy and the ads on TV being too loud.

I reckon we could get him to create a single payer system, and perhaps full communism, we just need to convince him that what the USA really needs is 'Trumpcare' and 'Trumping the means of production'

That wasn't serious BTW, though I am sure that I don't actually have to make that clear on here since nothing on this thread is read in a hyper-uncharitable way...

It probably represents the last gasp of pilot operated aircraft anyway.

Not quite yet. The US have four new manned military aircraft projects underway: F/A-XX/NGAD, F-X, T-X and LRS-B. The rise of the drones is inevitable but there will still be new manned aircraft until the second half of the century.

  • Maybe we could all buy Sukhois ...looks like a plane that works and we all get a three Su for one A35 deal .....with maintenance a monkey could do with a hammer ...it's a deal , itsa steal ......fly it in the rain even

First, it's completely incompatible with all existing weapons, infrastructure and training.

Second, the latest Flanker variants are hand made at the rate of one every two months. The F-35 line at AFP4 in Fort Worth produces 17 aircraft a month.

Third, the Russians are flaky suppliers which leads to problems like this:

indias-auditing-agency-punches-holes-russian-sukhoi

The Russkis will certainly do them for a knock down sticker price but when it comes to technical support and parts availability it's often a case of yob tvoyu mat'.

Fourth, it's 40+ year old design and technology has moved on a bit.

Hasn't happened yet, so far as I know.

Fidel Jr. promised a new evaluation but when it was blindingly obvious the F-35A would win any objective assessment they decided to do an uncontested purchase of the F/A-18E and tell everyone it was interim measure.

If they get the Australia price it'll be a little more expensive than the F-35A (Canada gets no workshare from the Super Hornet). If they get the Kuwait price, it'll be a lot more expensive.

The Donald can't get stars to perform at his inauguration. Even Sir Elton turned him down & he performed at Rush Limbaugh's wedding. Them smug Hollywood liberals...
"They're calling managers, agents, everyone in town to see who they can get and it's been problematic,"...Grammy-winner John Legend, who has been a guest of the Obamas several times, says he is "not surprised at all"..."Creative people tend to reject bigotry and hate," he told the BBC..."We tend to be more liberal-minded. When we see somebody that's preaching division and hate and bigotry, it's unlikely he'll get a lot of creative people that want to be associated with him."..."A lot of artists out there have been very pro-Hillary and anti-Donald.

Don't worry, it doesn't matter. Thanks to even further accelerated climate change everything is going to vanish forever.

On this matter we should probably refer to DNC Zach...

DNC Staffer Screams At Donna Brazile For Helping Elect Donald Trump | The Huffington Post

“Why should we trust you as chair to lead us through this?” he asked, according to two people in the room. “You backed a flawed candidate, and your friend [former DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz] plotted through this to support your own gain and yourself.”

Some DNC staffers started to boo and some told him to sit down. Brazile began to answer, but Zach had more to say.

“You are part of the problem,” he continued, blaming Brazile for clearing the path for Trump’s victory by siding with Clinton early on. “You and your friends will die of old age and I’m going to die from climate change. You and your friends let this happen, which is going to cut 40 years off my life expectancy.”
