Donald Trump - MAGAtwat news and discussion

... and just to clarify, in asserting class and common interests, I realise that does just about nothing in itself to construct anything effective, whether it be about sexual violence, workplace managerialism, Islamaphobia or other pressing issues. I'm just making what I'd hope is an obvious point, that beginning with notions of the enlightened 'us' and the stupid 'them' breaks that project before it begins.
Isn't an enlightened us and an unenlightened them unavoidable for any political action. I'm right other people are wrong seems to be built into it. There are better and worse ways of framing it but I don't see a way out of it.

Yeah. You certainly don't have to frame the unenlightened them as 'stupid', but any attempt at persuasion will involve trying to put across something you think that person hasn't considered.

I would add, though, that any attempt to help others in any context, including a political one, has to involve asking them what their issues are. That is perhaps the problem with SWP-style lecturing - failing to approach with humility and a readiness to learn and change your mind even as you attempt to change the minds of others.

No, indeed, but then there has been a bit of that framing on this thread.

Edit, but this is where we were up to several pages ago, so not much point pursuing.

Not getting back into any kind of argument, but your post reminded me of a bit in The Ragged Trousered Philanthropist, even though it's over 40 years since I read it. Frank Owen is arguing something with a reactionary workmate and gets the reply 'I suppose you think you are right and everyone else is wrong'. His response is something like 'well, yes, that's the nature of arguing with someone, I think this, you think that and I do think you are wrong'.

Yes I would tend to agree but also they are insane by any metric you would care to use. I predict this will come back to bite them on the arse big time.
Yes, I agree. How long before the orange turd starts denying that he implemented the vaccine at warp speed, and that he himself is vaccinated? He got booed when he tried to brag at a rally, and has shut up about it since. So yet another "I'm alright Jack" policy from him.

No it wasn't.

It was the number two search within the category of searches related to the EU.

And we aren't told anything about what proportion of the total number EU-themed questions it represented. Maybe it was 1% or maybe it was 49%. Do you know, or are you happy just to repeat a largely context free "fact" widely reported in the media at the time?
I can almost feel your rage through my monitor, how satisfying!

I'm more than happy to get any kind of reaction, positive or negative, it makes zero difference to me as you're just disconnected words on a screen.:)

I don't think pointing out you got your facts wrong has much to do with rage. All it showed is that you are equally vulnerable to the kind of bias you denounce in those you consider thick.

getting bored of some of these aggressive, rude attitudes from this clique. not endearing at all. come across like a bunch of lazy telegraph readers. oh they're so stupid the Brexit and Trump voters -- so fucking what?

Anyway back on topic the Elon Musk meltdown and how it is playing out with regards the US government shutdown is going to create major tension and we knew that two egos the size of Musk and Trump couldn't get along well for long, there was bound to be friction that would blow up, and it's quite unique in the sense that Musk, unlike previous world-shaping billionaries, is quite prone to getting riled up and rising to the bait on his $44bn toy platform

Oh no, it's the end of the world!

How ironic.

Pathetic. You post something up which is critiqued and now it's all I don't care what you say ner, ner ner.
:D

Yebbut.

You're wrong and he backed up why. Your reply is really odd. He's clearly not in a rage. That's how discussion works.

Refute the point or justify yours or something ffs, or why bother posting? I mean call him a twat along the way if you must; it's traditional round these parts. A bit of content would be nice too though.

I live our new friends from AV, I really do. But may you could tone down the rage, a wee bit and perhaps take on board what others are saying here?
Jog on with your hectoring.

If someone has an avatar, do you think they will get uptight with reference to it?

Mine's bread. I'm not going to get in a huff if someone refers to that.

Now put me on ignore, as you obviously have a problem with my posts.

I'm sorry you feel everybody is pathetic and stupid and need exercise.

I realise you are unable to take a bit of friendly and constructive criticism, but reducing people to the status of an animal is dubious. It's the kind of language that has been used by tyrants and fascists over the years. It's not a good look, frankly.

Disingenuous bullshit, with your "friendly and constructive criticism".

Don't try that nonsense with me. You appear to be looking for a fight.

If Orang Utans get upset about being referred to as primates, then maybe they wouldn't have them as their avatars. It's noticeable that it's you complaining.

Now kindly bugger off and leave me alone.

Oh no, somebody is wrong on the Internet!
