Detail your latest clothes and slap related purchases here #2

Purple camo. Say no more.

Useful for hiding in the branches of copper beech trees, ready to drop on the heads of the enemy. Also for swarming through beds of Sambucus Nigra.

bought a proper, old skool, blue nylon + vivid orange lining snorkel parka, like what I had as a kid
bargain £7 in charideee shop
I am delighted with it

but also slightly concerned it represents a very actual mid life crisis thing

Nah, if you were having a mid-life crisis, you'd have bought either a Chopper (if you had your parka in the '70s) or a Grifter (if you had your parka in the '80s) bike to go with it. :D

Don't make me describe some of my dad's midlife crisis outfit choices - talk about trying too hard.

ouchmonkey IMHO it's not about the parka, it's more about the nuances of how you wear it and what with.

My purchases have been boring. Merino pants and vests. Except I don't think they're boring, I think they're very exciting  warm, but not sweaty. Although I wore one of the vests unwashed last night to commute and got rained on and had to sit through a lecture smelling faintly sheepy :D

Being -- allegedly -- an adult, I believe I'm supposed to call them base layers, not vests, and that makes it okay  amiright Voley monsterbunny ?

I can't imagine wooly pants :hmm: can we see pics? :D

I used to have a parka like that ^ :( (when I was little* and not so long ago) proper actionman parka.

I *think* I gave it to kittyp when I didn't wear it very much anymore... I wonder if she still has it? :hmm:

*I think my 70s one was light blue.

Not in this forum you can't :D They're these - not wooly exactly, they feel like cotton. But they don't do that horrible damp/smelly thing when you exercise  I have an icebreaker pair that feel more obviously like merino, but still very thin. I have been looking for a solution to my 'underwear for exercising in' problem for about 10 years.

The solution is to do no exercise ;) :D (I change when I get to work)

They look comfy, like vest material. Where does the sweat go then? :hmm:

ouchmonkey I so want one of those parkas.
me too...
Another  for the parka ouchmonkey. I have wanted one for ages.

apparently so have I, although I wasn't particularly concious of it - I put it on last night and zipped it all the way up like Kenny in South Park
then waited for the missus to turn round and notice.
she said "oh ace you've wanted one of them for ages" :D
guess I must have mentioned it without thinking much about it...

there is this issue to consider, I open the floor to any helpful suggestions...
I was going with outside, when it's cold/raining (yet to see if it's waterproof or needs treating)
sadly, I don't have a chopper to ride in it, I had a Grifter as a kid - maybe not concurrently with the parka

Maybe your missus had noticed you looking at pictures or adverts featuring them? At least at this time of year it can be justified as sensible non-rural outdoor gear, instead of just posed in. :D As for checking the waterproofing, stand under a shower in it with the zip fastened and the hood up? Not joking - that's what some of the bigger outdoorwear sellers do.

As for the nuances, I suppose the main thing is to not wear all the same clothes (cut the same way and in the same colours) which a yoot would wear with it. A bit like the nuanced differences between typical teenager/young adult jeans, adult jeans, and pensioner jeans. You might not be able to describe it, but you'd probably recognise it.

There is that :D They're a bit nice for sitting around in too ;)

I dunno :hmm: I think it just dries really quickly. Or, y'know, elves.
Oh, that kind of exercise

Pant elves, I need to order some of them!

My boots are going back. I like the others more, which is good as they were cheaper

Heh, I didn't mean *nudge nudge wink wink* exercise. I've started wearing vests ffs, I think I've resigned myself to not getting any of that kind of exercise :D

Show us the other boots!
