Crafty Thread - what are you working on at the moment?

I'm making one of these... I was meant to be making one for gaijingirl but got sidetracked into making one for me :hmm: http://www.made-by-rae.com/washi/

I've made life more complicated for myself by adding two features the designer thought of afterwards and blogged separately: a bodice lining and long sleeves. Not quite sure how it's all going to fit together but I expect I can bodge it.
I love that dress and just found the only uk shop which stocks the pattern is just up the road from me! It must be fate...

How much fabric did you need to make it? I think we are a similar size?

I got a remnant of something which was only about 2 metres, but it was incredibly wide. There's a table on the website with amounts, I'd go by that. Although it doesn't allow for the sleeves.

decent weekend's work here :thumbs : (spot the deliberate mistake/s )

they are gorgeous

incidentally, do you have an etsy shop? I was looking at photograph albums nowhere near as nice as that on there today, and they were nearly $180 each…. you could make a fortune, having actual talent!

fab job chikkie

was it on here someone was talking about felt ball wreaths? spotted this in a mag at the hairdressers - £15 - has to be less than diy would be...

it was me- have looked at that one, its too little.

Mine is half made….. I have to squirrel away time when neither the cat nor the boy are around so its slow progress….

Yes! Spam me!

My first sewing project in about 30 years - labcoats (yes, labcoats) for QOTH junior and his friend who are into playing scientists / inventors. I don't think the tailors of saville row are losing any sleep but I've finished one without sewing my fingers together. It's actually a pyjama top with some extra length on it.

Burda patterns though. Is Burda german for 'guesswork'?

I've just started to make our wedding invites :)

Then we were looking through Pinterest and found some ribbon flower bouquets. We've seen some similar, and ribbon/button bouquets around and about before but they've been really very expensive.

I've got 11 months to master the art of ribbon flowers of various types. It seems roses are fairly straight forward :)

I may end up doing a creation with ribbon flowers and buttons. Will have to go rummaging on local shops for buttons and fabric.

I also want a sewing machine. Any recommendations for a cheap starter?

Edited for spelling mistakes, and general fiancée moans

My old heavy duty Singer packed up (after 60 years service to my family :D ) so I got one of the very cheap £49 ones from John Lewis. I've had no problems with it - despite some of the terrible reviews on the website - having had it for a couple of years and using it fairly regularly. It's very basic, but works ok unless you want to sew very light or very heavy fabrics.
Depends how much you want to use it, and whether you're prepared to upgrade if you like it, or if you have specialist requirements...

Edit: I note they've currently got a better one from Janome on offer at £89 http://www.johnlewis.com/janome-2070r-sewing-machine/p231821810

Lidl often have a cheap sewing machine on offer. My theory is that if they are only going to sell one, then they'll choose a more reliable model as they don't want to get them all back.

That Janome looks OK too.

(I have this great picture in my head of an angry faced man making roses...)

We're off to john Lewis to have a look. I've got a budget of up to £150. If I buy one if like it to last. They seem to have a few good ones.

I've seen lidl selling the seeing machines, was tempted with one but they sold out everywhere. I never even saw one appear in my local store.
