Crafty Thread - what are you working on at the moment?

thanks :) it has the world's clunkiest course title "artist designer: maker". basically we have the run of the college and access to every workshop. it's a new course and because i took last year out i've only been doing it since september. in that time i've done projects involving laser cutting, enamelling, glass and resin casting, 3d modelling and printing, silk reeling/spinning and weaving and probably more i forget. basically i'm having a ball :D

that sounds amazing

This weekend I taught myself to crochet. I decided I would make a blanket instead of practising stitiches then undoing them so that I have something to show at the end of it and that it doesn't matter if I make mistakes because I am a novice.

if you want some insiration, here are a few crochet flickr groups that have interesting things in them

Oh and my sister also said she really wanted a knitted pouffe. We discussed the practicalities of getting this to Jersey and she said she could stuff it herself if I knitted the cover, but I think there is more to the internals of a pouffe than just stuffing. I went and prodded one of these and there was definitely something firm going on in there:

The interior "pad" is usually upholstered (layers of wadding and ticking over a sprung, frame, then finished with something like cambric before being put in a cover).
Hope I've explained that so that it makes sense! :D

So the teach myself to crochet and learn lots of different stitches blanket has grown...I think I have also discovered why older people love to craft with wool too, it's cosy as hell! :D...me just now; too windy to garden today so audio book on and slowly crocheting myself into a sunday afternoon nap on the sofa...

Wow! that really has grown. At this rate, by the end of the month you'll have crocheted a blanket to cover the whole house.

Am currently ambling through the making of a box-type pinhole camera. The picture shows the main box (sans front and back, as yet), the leathers I've cut to cover it, and a paracord strap I've been toying with.

The drilled holes are :

On top - for a viewfinder and two spirit-levels.
On the side - for a strap.
On the bottom - for the inevitable tripod mount. :)

i'm trawling ravelry atm, but on the off chance does anyone know of a free (tbf not-free is fine) open lacework crochet shawl pattern? ideally triangular. i'm looking for something that has interesting patterning but a basically open structure :hmm:

There was something called I think South Bay Shawlette. Can't be arsed to find and post the link on my phone but it'll be on Rav.

Bit of advice needed.

If someone wanted to put rude words on bunting like this-

Would it be best to cut out letters and sew them on or glue them?

I'm guessing gluing would be easier but stitching would look better. Problem is, I'm a sewing machine novice and my hand stitching is shite!

Apologies for all the swearing in suburban ; )

I finally got round to doing this.

The bondaweb is amazing so thanks for all the recommendations.

I didn't want to use black for the lettering but on reflection it really would have been better. I ended up having to sew round the letters anyway as the contrasting letters don't really show up.

Some of the sewing is a little rustic as it's my first go at anything slightly fiddly but I'm pretty pleased and enjoyed it a lot.

The whole thing says fuck sticks.

Slightly ashamed I didn't make my own bunting but I'm going to have a go tomorrow as a way to practice some basic stuff like binding.
