Crafty Thread - what are you working on at the moment?

2022 was very much the year of stretch for me. I made a slightly odd but functional bikini, a long-sleeved t-shirt with cats on, a wetsuit jacket (this was a fail because it just rides up in use), two gorgeous stretch dresses (the Kielo wrap dress - one in a plain black drapey jersey for smart occasions and one in a cosy blue and mustard sweatshirt fabric) which I've worn a lot, a sweatshirting jumpsuit and now I'm making a tracksuit for winter yoga.

The discovery that my standard domestic machine was perfectly capable of sewing knits well with the right foot, needle and stitch has been a game changer.

This was also the year I tried my hand at needle-felted visible mending.

This coming year I want to make some trousers, which I have the fear about. I don't know why as I used to make my own trousers, but I didn't know anything about fitting then and was quite happy if I could just get them on. I've also got a coat coming up, maybe a cape. I've always had a hankering for a cape. I basically make all my own clothes now, outer layers anyway.

Look great together!

Get that instagram sewing account set up to show it all off!

I need to get properly stuck into my new machine this year.

Greetings crafty types. I want some advice. I used some old curtains to make a cushion cover but holes were worn in the material. I have some more to make another. What can I do to stop holes developing again?

This sort of thing?
That should help - depends what was causing the holes!

I agree with moose , we need more info on what is causing the holes! Maybe it is a very thin fabric? Interfacing may help but it will make it stiffer. A cotton interfacing might work better.

Personally I just wouldn't bother. If it's worn out it's worn out. Upcycling is all very well but there comes a point.

If you did use interfacing I would choose woven fusible, not the non woven fusible there, but it would make the fabric very stiff.

You could alternatively consider patchwork if small parts of the fabric are stronger, and/or quilting it would reinforce it to an extent.

Can anyone suggest sites to find fabric like this?
Obviously this one was vintage and expensive. I found another that was £55 a metre.

It needs to be fairly sturdy as I’m covering chair pads and also possibly putting it in panels to make my currently tacky cocktail bar fit in with my cottagy dining room.

I’ll possibly find a curtain or two in charity shops but I don’t have much time for trawling them and I’ll need enough for 6 cushions and the paneling.

I've just inherited these curtains with my new house if you would like them. It's a nice print but... brown.

St Michael, old Marks and Spencer, curtains are worth a look on eBay for fabric. I daresay other vintage curtains would work too.

That’s so kind, thank you. Bit brown for me though, I’m definitely going for pastels.
My poor husband is living in an Easter bonnet. 😄

No worries. There are quite a few on Marketplace at the moment, I've been looking for something to replace my 1990s orange curtains.

In fact a quick look on ebay for Sanderson curtains roses turns up lots of things that would work out cheaper than £55 a metre. You might have to work around faded or worn bits but this sounds like the perfect project for that.

I’ve found some really cheap curtain material in fabricland which goes well with the paint we’ve chosen for the walls and isn’t too loud.
Will get that unless I see anything else.

I’ve also bought my first dress pattern so bought some cheap cotton for a practice run. :hmm:
