Crafty Thread - what are you working on at the moment?

I got this compartmented box off freecycle - saw it and immediately thought my mum would like it, it says "Cuisine" on it so would have been a gift box of tea or spices originally, I reckon she's more likely to use it for knick-knacks or jewellery though.

The glass is a little chipped and rough around the edges in places in the interior of the lid, any tips for covering that? Was thinking some narrow velvet ribbon glued inside just around the edges of the glass.

Also any tips on getting the glass clean and streak-free preferably while leaving the little flower decal thingies in the corners undamaged? It doesn't honestly matter too much if they end up looking a bit worn/distressed or removed entirely, I'd rather keep them if poss but it's more important to get the glass looking nice and clean.

Photos to follow shortly!

Maybe you could scrub off the pattern altogether and redo with some new decals?

Yeah or possibly do without or do something different (glass paint perhaps), it's the box itself that appealed and I know it will be liked regardless of decoration on the glass

Wow, they’re gorgeous!

I have a week off and no cash or plans so in between naps and Netflix I might actually finish a cross stitch. I’ve got 3 or 4 unfinished ones and a few patterns I’d like to try.

I will also fanny around with my new thermal printer and make some stickers but that’s not really crafting.

Managed to miss my slot at the market so I am looking into ways to sell stuff online with other potters

This guy had siblings but 2 of them warped to much in the kiln and another managed to throw himself off a shelf I'd left him for storage. 24 hours was to soon for such a plate F

Alternate takes on the shape (you can see the level of warping on at least one of these);

Not perfect at all and quite rough in places but I finished a cross stitch I’ve been doing for ages. Now to learn how to frame them.

I’m pleased that I even finished it tbh and I think/hope my friends will like it. I picked something that is very much their colour scheme.

I have several tiny and sweary embroidery decorations to do now. Except I read something earlier about people dreading home made gifts so maybe I should just get them all a bottle of wine. 😄

Sorry if you already said somewhere, but do you use them for fishing, or are they just decorative? Beautiful and intricate work whichever.
I fish with the flies. There's a small trout and Grayling river that runs through where we live. I fish on there and on hill locks in Scotland and Wales.

It's close season now so instead of fishing I'll be building up my fly boxes for next year.

Surely you made that one up, too? :D

They're so beautiful, it's a shame they get used for barbaric purposes. Would make lovely jewellery!
There's a number of famous fly tiers whose flies sell for quite a lot and end up used as jewelry items. Broaches, earings, hat pins etc.

These 47 flies by Megan Boyde went under the hammer for £22,000. Lady Di wore a few of Megan's flies. Granted she's probably one of the most celebrated salmon fly tyers but there are others who's flies end up at auction and subsequently on a fine country lady's lapels. 😀

The booby fly isn't my invention and has been around for some years now. Its quite controversial amongst the fly fishing community. Some even refusing to use it.

I don't use them myself, these would be no good on the river i fish, I'm making a box of flies up for a friend as a guft.

The ones I use to fish are much more imitative of the natural creatures that coexist in the trout's habitat.

Understanding entomology is a big part of fly tying.

I finally finished its long-sleeved cousin - I lost interest because it's way too short. May have to add a border in yet another print.

Well... It's a cropped style and that's what it is. I lengthened the first one a bit, then made another out of old tablecloths and forgot to do it again but I still really like it actually.

There was a lot of challenge in getting the placement of embroidered bits right.

This was half finished, not yet hemmed, scuse pj bottoms.

(I'm a crap Instagrammer, half the time I can't be bothered to photograph things. Occasionally I think I should go full sewing account and model my makes but it seems like a lot of work for no obvious benefit.)A very loose, short white blouse with big puffy sleeves, made of bits of embroidered and lacy fabric

Oooh that's fab! Glad you persisted, because I know you weren't sure to start with.

I know it's supposed to be cropped, but I'm not used to things being short on me :D I normally have to cut several inches off everything.

IKWYM, also its insanely wide. It's a change of mindset.

I've just taken a photo of the finished version. Actually the pic above was at the point where I hated it. The lacey section is a bit wodgey. Anyway.

The skirt also is one I made, a Fibremood pattern called Jutta in a plain black washed wool. I have a black linen one for summer too. Drawstring, big pockets, endlessly useful.

Another view of the blouse showing voluminous sleeves and accompanying black skirt
