Crafty Thread - what are you working on at the moment?

I managed to rescue the top! I gave it ONE LAST CHANCE and tried it on again. Realised that if I put two massive darts in a place where no darts should be, it would fit perfectly.

The sleeves are a bit mad and experimental and it's definitely a Statement Piece but I have just worn it to an art thing and survived.

Will try to take a pic.

My first attempt at woodwork (with some help from the DIY questions thread). It's a made-to-measure pull out bench bed for my Berlingo, made from secondhand Ikea bunk beds. It hasn't been easy but I'm pretty proud of my efforts.

On to the cushions now, which is much more in my comfort zone.

O well done. I have to rig up a similar arrangement for the horsebox, before I dare start in on the cushioning, although I am attempting an L shaped thingy with a pull-out section.

This is now my fave thing to wear because it's practically weightless and perfect for the weather. I want to build up a library of tops I can wear with motorbike jeans.

The problem was with the stripe placement. Originally I had all the stripes going the other way and where the vertical stripes were gathered they looked awful. It had the weird effect of making the colours blend into each other.

A fluttery top with broad pink, purple, blue, green, orange and yellow stripes.

I've been saving whiskers shed by my cat for years.

I've been wanting to make a bracelet from them. And I finally did it. I think there are about thirty here. They're held together by nail varnish. The clasp is a couple of sections of brake cable sleeve from my bicycle.

I'd like to decorate a leather jacket with a large image. - say 12" across and 8" deep - made of cut out bits of leather, to be glued on. Not much scope for fine detail, because it needs to be cutoutable. Is there some clever search term I can use to find images? I've tried things like naive art, cubist, pop art.

Alternatively is there a filter I can apply to a complex image to make it simple enough for cutting out?

Try including 'vector' or 'posterised' in your search term. There used to be lots of software that you could use to create posterised images, where you could input the number of levels, or simplicity, you want, but I'm a bit out of touch with such things, particularly if it's PC you need.

Edit: apparently you can kind of do it in Word, if you have access to it

Tattoo images could work. Or just search for clipart and your subject matter. I've done similar for applique images.

OK, cushions finally finished. Did I say this would be more in my comfort zone? To anyone thinking of this, let me say that piping AND matching stripes is definitely definitely not recommended. I've had to tack every single step and even then the stripes have slid slightly out.

I can't believe you matched those teeny stripes. I so wouldn't have bothered. They are fab though.

To cheer myself up, I made a garishly orange frock.
Boudicca your sewing is impeccable. I love the coverings. Good job. Christ, my sewing skills are (marginally) better than my photography skills...but the bar is so low as to be subterranean.

Oops, it helps to include (rubbish)pic.
That is fabulous.

I've been experimenting with swimwear, starting with a remnant pack of fabric. I have actually been for a swim in this and it was fine, comfy etc. The pink is kind of unfortunately fleshy though and there are things I would do differently. I have another pattern to try with a more substantial top.

A pink and dark green bikini with very high waisted bottoms

O terrific, RubyToogood. I have a metre of gorgeous printed spandex (fromm Spoonflower)...and various bits of kit (twin needles, folding elastic) with the intention of making a swimsuit for grand-daughter...but have been too anxious to hack into the (spendy) material. So, practicing on some cheaper stretchy jersey. I have booked myself an afternoon sewing class (Starting Dressmaking), hoping to acquire a bit more polish. Also joining in a weekly sewing circle on the 19th (stab me in the eye if I ever refer to it as 'stitch and bitch'). My sewing is generally simple and a bit childish...but there is a whole heap of oversized linen garments and patterns out there, requiring very simple shapes and gathers. Back in the day, I used to be a lot more confident and fabric was considerably cheaper. Still, I have 6 metres of linen and cotton on the way (from Pound fabrics)...also where I bought the orange poplin (£3.50 per m).
Always on the look out for good cotton sheets and even curtaining.
