Crafty Thread - what are you working on at the moment?

Thank you, clicker. Normally, knitting season comes to a close, just as gardening season ramps up into full-on mode...but a new grandson on the way (June) means my knitting needles are still on fire. Annoyingly, daughter claimed the latest baby jacket was ' a bit girly'. I was astonished at Ms Woke's attitude...although she did row back when I suggested I might be spending my spring faffing about with larkspurs and geraniums rather than knit and purl. Will post a picture of said 'girly jacket' now I am beginning to get the hang of using the phone.
I am also knitting a fluffy white cloche hat for myself as I gave away my blue silk cloche (still needing ear covering).
Wearing colourful knitwear is the best that can be said for winter.

i have a log i want to make into a picture frame. was fully resolved not to acquire any more arcane tools :hmm:

my ebay watch list is now full of these :D

Tools are ALWAYS an investment. Will try to take a picture of some of my F-i-l's planes (some of which are decorated with carvings). A sharp plane, shaving off a curl of wood, is one of life's sensuous moments. As satisfying as sharp scissors, shearing through a lock of hair.

Here is a picture of the jumper I made with scrap wool as well as the one I haven't finished, even though there is only half a sleeve left to do

Gorgeous, the intricate patterns on those are amazing - very talented work there.

Ah, doing colourwork, with 2 or more strands of yarn is actually one of the easiest knitting techniques and totally suits mindless evenings of tea, spliffs and chat. I don't even consider delicate lace, cables, nupps and bobbles, stacked stitches, brioche etc.etc. My biggest breakthrough was knitting with both hands (english and continental). For real knitting skill, wayward bob 's socks are truly a work of talent and patience.

Wasn’t sure where to ask about this but I need to alter some jeans. If this is the wrong place I might start a thread.
I’m not bad at sewing but the extent of my making has been bags, cushions and sweary bunting.

I’ve got two pairs of wide legged jeans that fit great below the knee and on the waist but in between are a horror show as I am fat but with a flat bum and not massive thighs.

I’m willing to risk the least favourite pair as a practice run before the favoured and expensive ones.

They are much longer on me because my legs are exceptionally short.
Any tips on altering? I assume I’m undoing and cutting on the outside seam. I will have help with pinning and measuring from Mr Looby.

Most of the guides I’ve looked up seem to be about taking up jeans or cutting them off.

Trouser fitting is a minefield. I want to make some but have been putting it off a bit.

There is a currently trendy approach called top down centre out, but it might not work for a ready made pair.

Yeah I haven’t chosen a good first project. I could be patient and get them altered but I wanted to wear them this weekend. Plus, it’ll be expensive I’d imagine.

I've seen dry cleaners refuse to alter jeans. Because often the seams are topstitched and it's difficult to undo them and then make a good job of sewing them up again, and if it's the side seams that means shortening the waistband etc too. I've never attempted it myself (although I have made jeans in the distant past - so distant that I've been eyeing up the pattern thinking "these have come back into fashion again").

I think if you’re avoiding jeans I definitely should because you actually know what you’re doing. 😄
I’ll give up on wearing them this weekend and find someone to do them for me. Or just buy new jeans but I don’t think wide leg will ever fit me properly.
