Crafty Thread - what are you working on at the moment?

Ceramic studio visits done for the year. Had to spend the first 6 months doing nothing but think I've got back to normal service finally.
Nice! How did you do the leaves on the second-to-last piece? Is that underglaze, or slip, or something else?

Ta, I used slip to capture the details of the leaf then give it a bisque fire. A quick oxide wash picks up the details and veins - its then rubbed out or sponged down a bit, before putting the glaze over it and its last fire.

I veer between using my favourite (white satin cream) and transparent for this sort of work.

Those are fab. What's the pattern?

If we're talking delayed craft projects, I've embarked on a purple floral velvet party dress I got the fabric for two years ago. Because dammit one day there WILL be a party.
Well, my delayed project (I've had the fabric for at least 5 years) is a new purple dressing gown. Because dammit, I've worn the old one out....

Aye, it's looking like another year of failing to knit my seasilk/kidsilk pink and grey confection. Absolutely the most gorgeous (and spendy) yarn. Even worse, my Fairisle cardigan is also going into year 4...with a mere half a sleeve left to do. On the positive side, I finished a jumper for sweetheart - another complicated knitting job, using home dyed Black-faced Leicester yarn. Many shades of blue and stone but terrifyingly hot to wear because the yarn is doubled throughout. Knocked up a pair of fingerless gloves for a grand-daughter over the weekend...although she is deep into monochrome goth so not certain how well shades of blues and oranges will go down.
I don't normally knit things which cannot be worn but this little rabbit is just adorable. With a new grandchild on the way...

O. M. G it works
Will be spamming thread with pics of knitti g although it is a bit hard to write on my phone so at least I won't be endlessly waffling as per. Here's another few...of long delayed projects including fluffy pink cardigan and bloody Fairisle. Have finished the little fingerless mitts though.
They are lovely, aren't they, moose . I have a rather good cat pattern too (Pierre the Cat) if you want (I can upload you the pattern).

I found out yesterday that one of my closest mates (the kind where our kids call us Aunty even tho we’re not related) has breast cancer that’s spread at least locally to lymph nodes. We met when our eldests were undergoing multiple surgeries following brain injury, hers for cerebral palsy mine following the accident. We were both breastfeeding our youngests in the outpatients and she was crying and we made friends instantly. Watching her raise her severely disabled eldest son has been one of the most humbling experiences because she’s brutally honest and brave and outspoken about how destroying but affirming it’s been. She’s the opposite of me, an artist and feminist and sees unicorns and mad things like that.

By coincidence I’d told her the day she found the lump (I didn’t know she had) that I was going to make Frieda Kahlo next for her. My most ambitious project to date.

Every fucking knot is for her mates, furiously done

Lovely socks. Bobbles are the testicles of Satan though. I'm knitting a jumper with little bobbles, and they're like inverted nipples - every time I take my eye off them for a minute, they pop back in
I knitted a cardigan with bobbles all over it and they're so like nipples. I remember one time I was sitting in a pub and a mate's boyfriend started absent mindedly fingering the bobbles. I could never think of it in the same way again.

I had a bobble jumper in the 80s in a beautiful pastel pink mohair. Until a builder shouted, "PIG NIPPLES" at me one day.

Anyway, I've just realised my jumper's related to that dress you were going to make, so you might have the same problem!

Oh, I thought they were nupps which are ENTIRELY DIFFERENT. (I've never knitted a nupp so I don't know).

In other knitting news I recently discovered a whole new knitting shop in London (Pimlico) that somehow opened 2.5 years ago without me ever knowing about it. What are the Instagram algorithms playing at?

They're like a softer, more unstructured nipple.

And that shop looks nice! I only discovered Knitt last week, too. It's almost like I've been sitting in the house with my head under a cushion for 2 years. :hmm:

Arrgh, cables. I crave various Norah Gaughan patterns but know there is zero chance I would ever finish any apart from a bloody headband (Irish hiking thingy). I like mindless knitting where I can rattle along with a nice fast rhythm - anything which requires counting or checking is doomed to fail. I have, however, knitted a slightly lurid colourwork jumper which uses all my scraps from the many, many unfinished projects over the years. Guilt as well as stash busting. Done in record time too - 3 weeks for what is essentially dozens of mini swatches. Will attempt daylight pic.
