I actually think it's quite the opposite of bland.

especially as you can get it with avocado/peppers mixed in to give it even more flavour. But normal hummus is nice too.

hummus is bland, it needs lemon juice and cayennne pepper, and ideally more garlic than the supermarket puts in it.

Maybe the problem is where you buy it from then?

Most of the local convenience shops around here are Turkish owned and their hummus is delicious.

you've been to Turkish restaurants then and seen how they serve it, eating out of the tub is pretty gauche mr.

cos they serve it with lemon juice, pepper and olive oil with fresh bread

The hummus they sell around here contains all those ingredients (minus the black pepper and fresh bread). Serve it how you like at home and add what you want. What's the issue?

My mate was once doing some cooking with a bunch of youths. One who was living in a hostel went shopping with him to buy stuff. So they're walking round Kwik Save and my mate picks up a big bag of pasta and says "Howabout we cook some pasta, that's easy". "Okay" says the kid, and they carry on looking round the shop. "What shall we have with it?" says my mate, thinking the kid will opt for the easy bolgnese or a jar of Ragu. "Mash" says the kid. "You don't have mash with pasta" says my mate.

Kid says, "We do at the hostel". :(
