I never said that!
I love falafel, but have to say I like the taste of the trimmings more, esp pickled turnips. Falafel is more of a texture/ballast thing.

But this is the thing, it's all about the right combination.

Of course not all carbs instantly go together. You have to mix them up with other stuff too.

I'm not afraid of carbs (and when the hell did they become so evil anyway? ). Chip butties are fucking lush, but I'm more worried about the fat content than there being carbohydrates present!!

Ooh potato curry, naan bread, and pilau rice - carbs working together in perfect harmony (and as I make it myself rather than get it from the takeaway it's not full of fat, before anyone points the finger referencing my above comment) ;)

I'm with OU... pittas are crap. Houmous however.... mmmmmm, great with chips, fish, chicken, rice, stuffed vineleaves, kofta... but with falafel? Nah, tahini yogurt sauce for that

pierogies - double the win

It doesn't really taste of much
A good hummous should use the flavours of garlic, salt and lemon juice to cut through the ground chick peas and tahini. It should zing on your tongue, as well as having a decent consistency. Make your own hummous - it's a million times better than the homogenised supermarket crap and really satisfying. Best way of serving it imo is in a big bowl, make a hole in the middle and fill with olive oil, and serve with sliced cucumber, tomato and pitta :)

Most of our enjoyment from food is via our sense of smell. Houmous is anything but bland, unless you can't smell it.
Yeah I think our tongue can taste about 200 basic flavours, whereas our nose can discern about 20,000 different smells IIRC. Most "flavours" have a high percentage of their flavour derived from the smell component...

It's the covering it in olive oil that makes it extra tasty imo, although I could probably eat a pot with my finger without it.

Our town had 2 chip shops. Both gave them away for free if you had chips. But one would give them away for free just in a bag by them selves.

They were pretty grim tbh. My mate used to eat them more than I did.

I tell you what pisses me off about chip shops though. The extortionate price of curry sauce. It's made out of cheap arse powder yet costs a quid a pot. Thieves imo.

I am not a fan of hummus. But pita is fantastic. A pita filled with falafel and israeli salad is a fucking ace combination.

Does anyone know where I can get a decent lasagne & chips in Brixton tomorrow dinnertime?

super noodle sandwiches were always a fav student food....not done it for a while though spesh

I am partial to a meat and potato pie with chips, mushy peas and gravy from the chippy.
Seeing as chip shop gravy is abut 99.9% flour and one percent brown flavouring, that must count as 4 carbs. Five if you have a barmcake with it. :D

What do people think of Express Cafe in the market?
Bog standard caff fare, pretty cheap....their breakfasts are ok, last time I went in there was cos Phoenix was shut. It's about as basic as you get though! I havent tried the lasagne and chips....
