car booty

are they stone songs? i had a look on the back, he wasn't listed as songwriter...

Yeah, .

Can't find a clip of the Last version of , but I assume it's the same song?

:)

(-Naturally, posting these clips side by side just serves to further emphasise the sheer and obvious mightiness of Sly & The Family Stone.:cool::cool:)

forgot his real name was stewart...

but yeah. the family stone were about as good as a band could get, on form...

That's reminded me...

I got utterly bizarre record, which although apparently also by Abaco Dream, clearly sounds like it's by a completely different artist. -It's credited to 'Eric Siday', who also did some wonderful experimental/library music, but this single sounds like Chas & Dave meets Silver Apples! :hmm::D:cool:

A very mysterious release, and it wasn't until years later (-when the internet came along!...) that I could find out anything about it. (-I'm still not sure why this single came to be released in the form that it was though; possibly some kind of contractual swerve by Sly <?>, but why it's paired with such a weird b-side remains a complete mystery to me...)

:)

'hair' was in the box too. if the same guy's back on tuesday i'll pick it up.

Bear in mind this is from 1969, so it's funk factor is more 'jazz' than 'disco'. (-Which is a preferable thing in my book, but maybe not in yours? I dunno. :hmm::))

heard the 'beach party' albums might be worth a look too?

I've not heard them, but volumes #1 and #3 apparently have their moments. One of them has on, which has been certified as cheese-free.

(-We've really got to stop talking about James Last; it's making me feel wrong. :D)

The Psycho-Geography Of Record Fairs

Good article that'll strike a chord not just with anyone who's ever been to a serious record fair, but probably also, to an extent (-in terms of its musings about commodity fetishism), with anybody who likes to dig around at boot sales, charity shops, etc.

will give it a read later.

how come you're such an authority on james last btw?

oh, and:

peter tosh - mystic man
gwen guthrie - hopscotch (larry levan remix)
was (not was) - born to laugh at tornadoes
was (not was) - s/t
miles davis - birth of the cool

oho! that guthrie twelve looks like a score

Never knowingly heard this one 'til now, cheers; forget the cash value, it just sounds great!

Strangely, only yesterday, I was singing its daft 'chikki-bow-wow' refrain (-as I pottered around the kitchen...), knowing it only as something one of my mates used to sing years ago in a half-jokingly fashion. I guess this song is probably where he'd originally heard it... :hmm::)

forget the cash value, it just sounds great!
well, yeah. still, it's always good to have the rarity sniffing instinct confirmed.

great tune. the instrumental on the flip is ace too - it works really well stripped of vocals, which isn't always the case...

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean, and I tend to do the same (-check the going rate) any time I find an interesting second-hand record; sorry, I didn't mean to piss on your chips or anything.:)

I agree. As great a vocal as it is, it's the production of this one that jumps out at me. -Sly & Robbie, and then it got passed to Larry Levan! -It reminds me of Don't Make Me Wait by The Peech Boys, which I think is another of his. <?>

todays charity shop/town raiding was;

British Heart Foundation = Fabriclive.18: Andy C & DJ Hype (in it's tin),
Badmeaninggood vol. 1 Skitz,
Dan Greenpeace & DJ Yoda Unthugged The Essential Mix
promo(?) cdrs and basic sleeve apprently autographed by DJ Yoda :cool:

and a copy of Blue Monday - the cheap/plain(er) version of the sleeve disappointingly but it's Blue Monday on 12" squee:oops:

CLIC had a table of mysteriously ex-HMV books (hope this doesn't mean Exeter HMV's shut down or something) , scored a
dog eared copy of Tony Wilson's novelization of 24 Hour Party People (well fucked up when he's writing about the fictional version of himself in the third person) and Jim DeRogatis' Flaming Lips biog (they had a whole pile of copies, almost mint too) for 75p each. + the slightly less battered copy of The Rolling Stones / Daily Mail photo archive (illustrated biography).

Plus off Tivy market a proper old video (complete with the inside case listing VHS, Betamax and V2000 and the age rating having to have been stuck on the spine and tape) of a hip-hop film called Beat Street.
the cover said:
Scratchin' & makin' it rappin' & breakin' it on Beat Street, with the incredible New York City Breakers and Rocksteady crew and the sensational <unreadable because of the sticker> Grandmaster Melle Mell And The Furious Five Afrika Bambaata & The Soul Sonic Force + Shango and many more
. Cost me a total of no money - was in the all videos for free box.
