Buying a home and don't know how anything works

Ours was 4.5 months. Chain was very small. We aren’t buying, the buyers buyers were first time buyers and in rented. My advice would be get the buyers details if you can. Once we were in contact directly things sped up massively.
We were hoping they would do a second viewing so we could get their details but surprisingly no second viewing has been arranged. It’s been about 2 months and while everything appears to be going smooth as a seller it would be a bit more reassuring to know things are progressing the buyers side. It’s been really quiet other than this surveyor who seemed to want to get access but couldn’t, and no one seems to know if the surveyor needs to come back out due to lack of access. Infuriating

3 and a half months for me, this was a short chain with me at the bottom and my vendor buying from a developer. I told my solicitor not to start matters until the vendor had found their place (2.5 weeks), and then waited a further 4 weeks for a survey. There were also 4 public holidays in that time and we had 3 weeks between exchange and completion.

My one property transaction which went smoothly!

Ours was also about 3.5 months with no chain either side, we were in rented and the property we bought was empty.

I have no idea why in this technological age it takes so long.

I am at last under offer, but I'm not raising my hopes as I think the survey may put them off. The electrics are very old and there are two kitchens in the house which lenders don't like for some reason.

Can't you call the 2nd kitchen a utility room?

The top floor of my house was converted to a separate flat, (quite a long time ago if the tiles in the bathroom are any indication), it doesn't look at all like a utility room. :(

I had a similar problem when I sold my London house, had to remove the 'kitchenette' from my loft conversion so that my buyer could get a mortgage.

Wednesday, on the last stages of emptying our home of 26 years for completion of Friday. Have the 'solicitors' at the bottom of the chain done any of their actions that have been outstanding for 12 days?

Have they fuck.

That was two very long days.

Could not have done it without friends and neighbours pitching in. Made leaving even harder.

Tough this morning walking out of our home of 26 years, and two kids, for the last time. Lots of tears from me. Still, looking forward to the future.

It’s strange and surprising how emotional leaving a home can be. Happy landings to you x

Three years, three weeks and one day after the fire that destroyed our block, we are finally completing on our new house tomorrow. *

It's almost a year since the offer was accepted, eight months since it has been empty and I now have 6 weeks of building work to organise and oversee, which is a bit daunting, but by fuck I will be relieved to have the constant mental load of dealing with it all lifted.

The endlessness of it has been really, really hard to tolerate for all three of us - so I am just fixing now on looking forwards to the work being done and us finally being able to start putting down some roots and feel settled. :)

And erm, keeping my fingers crossed that the fucker doesn't fall down five minutes after we move in.

*We may well not get the keys tomorrow mind  because as per that just didn't occur to anyone else to sort out until I took it upon myself  but I will take that as the final wholly typical example of how the whole thing has played out. Tbf, I'm just relieved that there is now a plan cos I was seriously fearing another three years could pass before I got my hands on them. :D
